Karma is weighted anyway so that the first rating you get is by far the most important. For instance, I started with a 4, and despite have 22 ratings (most of which I'm fairly sure were 1s) I'm still only down to 2.66. Politics is not normally the reason why people get low karma scores, although it can have an impact. For example, it had a slight impact with Ben, but in the main it's just a way for him to avoid having to realise that plenty of people dislike him for who he is, not what he believes in. Normally, what gets low karma is bad spelling and grammar, deliberately picking arguments, whining, interrupting valid threads with long strings of non-sequiturs and just about everything else that makes these boards worthwhile. -------------------- Voice of Reasonable Morality Posts: 961 | Registered: Thursday, June 12 2003 07:00 |

Radiant also has a strong 5 star rating. Except I don't see him around too much. I have never seen him in General, only in the SubTerra forum. But then again, I have not been around here for very long. -------------------- Wham Bam Shizam Posts: 247 | Registered: Monday, September 6 2004 07:00 |

I have not been here long either, but I can already tell Karma means little to nothing. At least for me, I started a account here only so I could help people out and ask for it when I need it. But, I have come to enjoy this forum for more then that, and, as long as I'm having fun and the world does not hate me, Karma is not important. Side Note: I wonder who was the single person who voted on my Karma.... -------------------- Part of me wants to say, "Well, it's good enough for me, and it's my damn scenario," but another part of me sort of wants to hold back. I've settled on this compromise. -Kelandon Posts: 135 | Registered: Tuesday, June 22 2004 07:00 |

I've always thought the karma system was kind of silly, at least this board is different from some other systems i've seen, where it really has meaning. It all seems to be a popularity contest, and i seem to have enough friends :) -------------------- Scandalous Stories, fishing, and great photos Posts: 294 | Registered: Monday, November 24 2003 08:00 |

Radiant pretty much sticks to Galactic Core. As far as I know, the only times he has every posted elsewhere were when he was looking for Leylines testers in General. —Alorael, who will brag about the number of karma votes he has gotten even if the votes themselves are irrelevant. Either he inspires strong emotions or he posts so much that people feel compelled to comment through karma. Posts: 14579 | Registered: Saturday, December 1 2001 08:00 |

My karma is pretty much stuck between 4.43 and 4.45. I have more than a hundred votes, so they don't have much effect. -------------------- "At times discretion should be thrown aside, and with the foolish we should play the fool." - Menander ==== Drakefyre's Demesne - Happy Happy Joy Joy desperance.net - We're Everywhere ==== You can take my Mac when you pry my cold, dead fingers off the mouse! Since I started changing my PDN every day and thus looking at my profile every day, I've noticed that votes of (presumably) 5 raise my karma about 0.005 points, while votes of a smaller number (I'd guess 1, but it's just a guess) lower my karma about 0.02. I get more positive votes than negative ones, and the end result is that I am pretty much exactly were Drakey is. —Alorael, who sometimes wonders how far the UBB rounds karma. It obviously keeps more than two decimal places, but eventually karma has to become literally useless, right? It may take billions of votes, but unless karma weight hits a bottom cap, it will happen eventually. Posts: 14579 | Registered: Saturday, December 1 2001 08:00 |

Darn. Right in the middle of 3. I have 38 and 1.44 respectively as of yesterday. Which has stayed pretty stable. And no, TM, I have not yet rated you, though sometimes I've seriously considered it. ;) EDIT: Wait. 39 and 1.42. Imban must not have rated me before this topic. :( [ Sunday, October 31, 2004 18:06: Message edited by: 4614 and 4808 ] -------------------- -ben4808 For those who love to spam: CSM Forums RIFQ Posts: 3360 | Registered: Friday, June 25 2004 07:00 |

As stated previously- Karma is pointless because of all the multiple acount personas on this board- anyone with two or three acounts can make it extremly difficult to get higher than a two star karma- Perhaps I should just turn off my karma and be like Imban- Did you get a lot of bad ratings or something? 41 = 2.08 Ironically, when I was at the point where I was annoying the most people at the same time, it went from just over 1.5 to 2. Then again, I really can't give a rat's arse about my rating. Karma often reflects the reputation of an individual. Unfortunately, people are misjudged very occasionally, which makes Karma completely untrustworthy. I, for example, am misjudged often because of my eccentric behavior, optometrical handicap and lack of concentration. I have an optometrical handicap, which means that I cannot coordinate my body properly, and have problems with correctly assimilating information. Do not misinterpret this; This does not associate with intelligence at all. [ Tuesday, November 02, 2004 03:37: Message edited by: Mind ] Posts: 356 | Registered: Tuesday, April 6 2004 07:00 |

It takes a rather large lack of concentration for it to become noticeable on online forums. Poor coordination only becomes an issue online when it makes your typing loOOk lieEK tHISSsssSs!!11111, which yours does not. As for eccentric behavior... Well. Most of us have our eccentricities, but some are more eccentric than others. I must regretfully inform you that you aren't even close to the top of my oddball list. —Alorael, who still maintains his claim that the internet is, if not the great equalizer, than at least a medium through which stereotypes and prejudices have to be filtered differently.
