I have a file on one computer I need to get to another, but my only options are e-mail and floppy disks. The file is 2.6M which is too big for my e-mail and I think too big for a floppy. What do I do? I there a way to cut a file into two parts or does anyone know of a file compressor I can use? Or some one could e-mail the GF2 windows patch to me or host on their site for a day. Actually it doesn't. It sends 3 encoded MB. Encoding adds 33% so my 2.56MB file is too big -------------------- Need a pet? Need cheap labor? Buy a Moose! Take the Personality Test! INTJ 78% 33% 44% 22% Huzzah for the Masterminds! Posts: 1629 | Registered: Wednesday, October 3 2001 07:00 |

I have a program that turns a big program into smaller parts to fit on a floppy, and then put them back together as if it never changed. If you want it send me a PM i'll get around to sending you it tommorrow within an E-Mail, hope it will help you, btw i use this all the time, to transfer my Avernum game to another computer that doesn't have internet to download it on, the game works perfectly. The answer is simple. Get a free GeoCities web account. Create a folder. Upload the file onto that folder on your GeoCities space. Go online and type in the web address of that folder and then save the target file(that thing you wanted on the other comp) within the folder. You could compress the file, but I don't think you have to. Btw: Basic Geocities free is 5 Megs, however, if you have a yahoo mail(even free), it's 15 Megs. I didn't understand what you were saying but it gave me an idea that worked. I had already signed up for a tripod site but had never done anything with it. I use computer1 at home and computer2 at work. I couldn't download on comp1 but could on comp2. So I uploaded it onto my site from comp2 to the internet. Hopefully when I get home in half an hour and try to download it it will work. -------------------- Need a pet? Need cheap labor? Buy a Moose! Take the Personality Test! That was pretty much what I was saying. Only with GeoCities. Anyway. It's useful having excess webspace that serves no purpose... especially when you want to transfer something off of a Performa to an iMac ---------------------------------------------------- [ Thursday, November 06, 2003 18:59: Message edited by: Dark Flame ] Posts: 1918 | Registered: Sunday, October 13 2002 07:00 |

Gah! My home computer still won't download it right! I need a file compressor so I can fit it on a floppy. Anyone know of a good free file compressor? -------------------- Need a pet? Just get a free Netscape account. They can send five MB, IIRC. -------------------- ~ §øСüm©ÿªñ¡Ðë ~ Mission Ridge -- All Your Snow Are Belong to Us. Posts: 1277 | Registered: Monday, June 24 2002 07:00 |

If I'm reading this correctly, you just need to host the GF2 Windows Patch. -------------------- "At times discretion should be thrown aside, and with the foolish we should play the fool." - Menander ==== Drakefyre's Demesne - Vahnatai Did Do It desperance.net - We're Everywhere The Arena - God Will Sort The Dead ==== You can take my Mac when you pry my cold, dead fingers off the mouse! Like i said before I have a free "File Compressor" that you can have for "Free" if you can't download a small maybe 1kb program, if not then i might not be much use to you. I'm mailing it to you. If you can receive large mails, this should work. -------------------- Polaris Posts: 1828 | Registered: Saturday, January 11 2003 08:00 |

Get Winrar. It's free (well, trial, but IIRC you can just keep clicking 'register later', and even if you can't it ought to be good for as long as you want it...), and it can create spanning archives, which is essentially that 'cut it up and put it back together' thing, spread over a number of floppy discs. -E- -------------------- Let them eat cake! Winzip can do it as well, fyi. Just insert the first floppy, create an archive on the disk, and add the file to it, checking the option that says "several disks", or similar. When the first disk is full, it will ask you to change disks. When you've got it compressed, be sure to insert the last disk first when opening the archive on the other computer, because on the last disk is where the info about the archive in general is stored, like how many disks it contains etc. When you click Extract, it'll ask you to insert all disks in turn again, and you're done. -------------------- "And all should cry, Beware, Beware! Thank you all! The mirror site worked just fine. My computer drives me insane sometimes! Why would GF2 download fine, but not the patch? Oh well, at least I have it now. Next time I'll use that winzip trick. [ Friday, November 07, 2003 13:20: Message edited by: Archmage Alex ] -------------------- Need a pet? Need cheap labor? Buy a Moose! Take the Personality Test!
