Eldibs, I speak from experience. The network wizard is fine and dandy when you want to gloss over a lot of details, which just about every single 'wizard' does.. not to mention it makes a total mess of everything. The wizards in windows should be done away with. I want a mac to connect to a DHCP server, 1 click it's done. no hassle things are fine. no wizard needed. I do not hate PC's in the least.. i just hate windows. The only good PC I have ever used.. and I do mean the only one.. was the one my dad and I built way back in the day.. It surprise surprise cost just as much as a new mac. Sir Motrax, Apple computers are not marketed towards to person that only has $400 dollars to spend on a computer, cheap $400 PC's are and they serve their purpose fine. So yes, those people don't have $2000 but they also are not the people that would buy a mac. one last thing: "On an XP machine, sometimes you don't even have to install the drivers (depending on the age of the device). I plugged in my monitor, and it found the same drivers that came on the disk (without the disk in the drive), and automatically installed them." no computer, be it a $400 eMachine or a $4000 G5 should ever require you to install drivers for your monitor in this day and age to get it working. (3D graphics drivers and 2D acceleration via that graphics card notwithstanding..) I am a programmer with a fair number of years of experience, take my word for it when I say macs are generally a better investment for most people than a PC... it's the 30% margin apple maintains that keeps people away. and Maaya, macs are of higher quality in parts. build your own PC and you'll see where all the money goes when you buy the proper components. I rest my case. attack at will I have my shields up. -------------------- My game will be out soon!...... no really it will! Posts: 9 | Registered: Wednesday, June 11 2003 07:00 |

Anyone who thinks Windows is easier or at least as easy to use as Mac OS X to do anything other than basic crap is on crack. Windows XP is just a complicated mess of crap. Sure it is easy to simple things on it.. it is easy to do those same things on Linux.. or whatever platform.. Mac's just work. I have plenty of experience using both and setting up networks with both.. which is no cup of tea on a PC box... and to the guy that says you pay soo much more for Apple products.. who gives a ****... you pay for quality.. and funny thing is Apple is still the only computer company that can sell a computer with a %30 profit margin. I could go buy a Piece of crap PC for $500.. so what.. people buy macs because stuff works... and they last. I think most PC users are just jealous of the whole package. the only reason to even buy a PC.. and I mean the only reason is for the games.. there is simply no other reason. what can you do with windows you can do on a mac? or linux for that matter.. I rest my case... and also, about the games coming out on the mac first and it being good to weed out the "bugs"... funny.. by the 8th version of a game using the same damn engine you'd think there wouldn't be any major bugs anymore.. crazy. -------------------- My game will be out soon!...... no really it will! All the tiles I made on my own, well a few are from some free sets, but even those I went and did some pixel editing to make everything fit properly.. And if I were to do an OS X I would definately see what I could about an OS 9 version.. if there is any interest for one.. as it stands right now, I would like to concentrate all my development on OS X since there are a lot of things in OS 9 I would have to write by hand... and OS 9 users would net get OpenGL graphics. Right now I have a fairly complete build for OS 9, I mean there are a alot of bug fixes and things that do not work, but I can work from that and make something out of it. OpenGL allows me to a lot of things with the game in the future, allows me to support 3D models easier and will have better performance, and scaleable resolutions. But I shall what I can do. If you would like to try out a build of the old OS 9 version please email at: muffinking@rogers.com and I can send you a build. Hank- PS: the only tiles that are not mine are from the only OS X screenshot.. I riped them from another game for testing purposes only too see how they would look. -------------------- My game will be out soon!...... no really it will! I had always planned on porting it to PC and if I use OpenGL as the graphics system.. then it will be much easier... I think after this semester of school finishes I will begin work on it. -------------------- My game will be out soon!...... no really it will! Posts: 9 | Registered: Wednesday, June 11 2003 07:00 |

based entirely on and only on screenshots do you guys think I should continue to develop (or rather update would be more appropriate). My old RPG.. I ask here cause well, most of you are RPG fans.. so why not.. you can view some old screenshots of my game here . I got it to a point of being around 65-70% finished.. but it was learning experience.. and thus I kept re-writing it... eventually destroying any motivation I had to work on it.. but I have recently wanted to go back and update it for OS X and use more advanced technology, like OpenGL, CoreAudio etc... that comes with OS X.. thoughts? look cool? or should I crawl back to that hole I used to live in Hank- Aka: Loki -------------------- My game will be out soon!...... no really it will! why don't people ever post a picture of a leading Male character that has ripped abs.. crazy muscles.. and has the perfect body shape? It's only "offensive" because the picture is of a women... oh no.. portraying men in this respect is fine, but a women oh no.. thats offensive... <cough> These discussions are stupid. Of course it will be offensive, it is appealing to teenagers & men. not to 10 year old girls... ****... get over it.. now if it was a photo of your "mom" in a bikini with crazy face paintings and such then I suppose you'd have a valid argument. I have yet to see a non-stereotypical game. the barby game for girls about makeup.. or the RPG/Action/ etc.. game with sexy female characters for boys... it ain't changing anytime soon. lets repeat after me... "virtual" see that wasn't very hard. Hank- PS: Just for reference I am responding to the first page of this thread... I didn't bother reading most of the other responses.. so who knows someone could have said this already. -- I just felt like venting -- [ Monday, September 29, 2003 09:21: Message edited by: Loki ] -------------------- My game will be out soon!...... no really it will! wow... interesting what this little message started.. lol.. oh the useless info I now have... kidding of course.. I posted that because I have pestered Jeff about doing a 3D on more than one occasion over the years.. I myself am a programmer... and would love to do a game with Jeff.. I am currently working on my own 3D game at the moment.. Arancayter, there are 3D turn based games out there... ahem..........Quest 64... one example right there... alright a poor example (even though I like that game). I was saying it would be cool if Jeff converted his games to 3D engine... 3D literally and figuratively adds a new demension to games... I just want my 3D avernum game.. I find it hard to get into Spiderwebs games anymore... the years have past and the games still look the same... personally if I had the time to work on 2 games at once I would put one aside and make some a little newer and up to date.. cause despite how people on this board perceive things up-to-date usually means a better chance of making a sale... but it's late and I am talking nonsense yet .. peace.. I'm out. again. -------------------- My game will be out soon!...... no really it will! Posts: 9 | Registered: Wednesday, June 11 2003 07:00 |

perhaps it's just me, but I would love to see some of the games here updated with a new game engine is full 3D... roaming around a landscape in 3D would be awesome especially with the detailed back story as we have with all Spiderweb games. just a thought... I'm out. -------------------- My game will be out soon!...... no really it will! Posts: 9 | Registered: Wednesday, June 11 2003 07:00 |
