quote:Pfft. There are great BoE scenarios and BoE scenario creation is "simpler" than BoA scenario creation. The plot and balance are far more important than a tricky script-toy. That being said... I'd like to write a scenario, and I'll probably start in a week or two. I played through three of the four built-in ones (didn't play ZKR) to get a feel for the graphics. I still need to learn more of the scripting language before I hurl myself in. I already have a plotline and scrawled map at least. Posts: 7 | Registered: Sunday, December 15 2002 08:00 |

Thanks so much. The same thing happened to me, where I couldn't find Vahkos after I "killed" him twice. I _ALSO_ tried the criminal thing, and even killed Maynard. Seemed weird, because I was missing plot devices (read: hitting Fight then End will get you across the guard-stop next to Maynard's ballroom). Wooh. You are AWESOME. I hate how the 2d version looks. It's miserable. This, on the other hand, is beautiful. There's no way of zooming out, yes? Posts: 7 | Registered: Sunday, December 15 2002 08:00 |

It's been six years since I made my BoE scenario, I don't think I'm going back to it. I skimmed through the manual this morning, now I'm trudging through it with some care. Oh the pain! Heh. I joke around that I wish I learned more programming in college, you'd think I'd welcome a scripting language. Yeah, walls were so different in BoE. Also, I can't find the answer to this simply. Is the (0,0) outdoor terrain the top left block? Also, I'd expect you could use all that extra grid space on the editor window to see your neighboring terrains but it doesn't seem to. "one of the things that really annoys me about the editor is how much more difficult placing walls is than in Blades of Exile." Goodness yes. I made a medium sized scenario for BoE years ago, and I was Very excited to see that BoA came out. But I just spent half an hour Quite Unhappy because I couldn't figure out how to make outdoor mountains. Pure Hatred. But I got that, and now I'm groaning over learning scripting. I _liked_ the set up in BoE. If Jeff says it's more powerful.... I'll believe him (sighs). Posts: 7 | Registered: Sunday, December 15 2002 08:00 |

There have been game creation engines in the past. Most notably, Coldstone came out this summer. Unfortunately, Coldstone isn't very good. I've worked with BoE and it's a great scenario creator. I think there _is_ a market for a game creator. I'd be willing to pay more, like $50 for a BoA that could make stand-alone games. Or, there could be a licensing scheme with Spiderweb to release a game and split the profits 20-80 or something. Posts: 7 | Registered: Sunday, December 15 2002 08:00 |

Just wanted to gauge people's interests... Who would want BoA to make stand-alone scenarios instead of scenarios to be played within BoA? I know it's probably a pain for Jeff, and he probably thinks he'd make more money without stand-alone... but Whaddya think? The BoE scenario editor had the best game creation interface I've seen. I would love to take advantage of it to make actual games that can be traded around outside BoA. I think it would increase the market for BoA and more people would buy it. btw. I never liked the new interface in Geneforge... I guess Nethergate's interface was fine, but the newest party movement drove me crazy. Posts: 7 | Registered: Sunday, December 15 2002 08:00 |
