Hmm. My semi-educated guess is that you went to a site (quite possibly a porn site, but that's none of my business) that forcibly downloaded spyware onto your computer, and the spyware had a bug. -------------------- The Empire Always Loses: This Time For Sure! If it does that at start-up, you can probably make it...not start up. To do this, select run from the start menu, then type in msconfig Once you are there, goto the startup tab and uncheck the program which you think might be causing the problem. With Win 2k right-click on the bottom taskboard, just left of where you see the time. A menue pops up and you'll find the Taskmanager there. Click on it. You'll see the programs and the processes that are currently running. As an afterthought: if you haven't been to a porn site, have you gone to a crack site? They sometimes give you little gifts as well. I know of a program called sex. It's entirely legitimate. Justin Frankel wrote it. http://www.nullsoft.com/free/safesex/ -------------------- I've got a pyg in a poke. Posts: 999 | Registered: Friday, June 27 2003 07:00 |

I'm sure there are plenty of legitimate programs with that name, but I was working on the assumption that since he didn't know how it got into his startup items, it probably wasn't one of them. -------------------- The Empire Always Loses: This Time For Sure! "no. i haven't gone to a porn site. but i can't speak for the other people in my house..." Public-use computer. Sylak could have absolutely nothing to do with it and it could still be legit. -------------------- I've got a pyg in a poke. Posts: 999 | Registered: Friday, June 27 2003 07:00 |

He hadn't mentioned that at the time I posted. Anyway, the program you mention doesn't seem like the sort of thing one would run at startup. I suppose the obvious thing to do is ask everyone in the house if they've deliberately installed any such thing. If they haven't, find the program and try to get rid of it. -------------------- The Empire Always Loses: This Time For Sure! Posts: 9973 | Registered: Saturday, March 30 2002 08:00 |

Well if you are going to transfer the registered game you have to make sure you also include the registry files so that it would be considered registered... sorta like when you get exile on another computer and need it registered but lost your code... or if you get an older version of Exile because you just like the old graphic set :-D. What constitutes a major transgression for a member: + Any communication that is intended to harass, belittle, humiliate, threaten or cause embarrassment to a fellow member. + Hate speech against a certain group of people, due to their religion, sex, sexual orientation, nationality, etc. + Impersonation of another person or screen name (including "faking" a screen name by using similar-looking text characters). + Discussion of illegal activities. + Depictions of sexually explicit material. + Flooding the forums with lots of topics and posts about nothing legitimate. + Requests for "cracks", pirated software, ways to pirate software, etc. ...Although no one has requested any, it is not preferable that you talk about it. As of yet, I believe that no one has said anything inappropriate in this discussion. While the topic of cracks has been discussed, no one has crossed the line here and actually requested or supplied anything. There's no need to be an alarmist in this situation, RC. I think that most of us are aware of the rules and are taking care to abide by them. -------------------- Stughalf "Delusion arises from anger. The mind is bewildered by delusion. http://housecall.trendmicro.com Free online virus scan - excellent service. It finds things that even Norton Antivirus (the paid, registered version) does not. Sometime the servers are busier and it won't run, but keep trying. It also cleans off the viruses and trojans when it can. -------------------- Behind, the sea of time and space roars and follows swiftly Posts: 280 | Registered: Wednesday, October 3 2001 07:00 |
