I just tried to download BoA scenarios. The .sit files had Microsoft Word "W"s with an arrow and whenever I tried to open them, Word opened. Needless to say, they do not work in BoA. What's going on and how do I fix it? -------------------- Do not underestimate the power of the mechanical pencil. Join the Dark side. We have cookies. .sit are Mac StuffIt archives, so you should get StuffIt Expander if you're on a Mac and use that to extract the actual scenarios. If you're on a PC, you should download the PC versions. Posts: 3234 | Registered: Thursday, October 4 2001 07:00 |

Drag the files onto Stuffit or use "Open with". -------------------- "There are no turtles anywhere" Ponder Stibbons One, Two, Three, Pfhor, Five… Avernum 2 AM Status - Maps - Tomb of Dahris-Bok - Annotation - Fort Draco/Ganrick Spider/Areana Caves I have an interest in "custard titles". That's what I did. Again, when I tried that, it opened Word. -------------------- Do not underestimate the power of the mechanical pencil. Join the Dark side. We have cookies. What happens if you do the equivalent of a Windows right-click (a command-click, I think) on one of the .sits? On Windows, it brings up a file menu with the option 'Properties' at the bottom. If the same applies to Mac, click on it. From there, you should be able to find some sort of option to change file association. Or, if worst comes to worst, you can just download Niemand's GraphicAdjuster and the Windows version of the scenarios and convert them to Mac yourself. -------------------- Scenarios need reviews! Stuffit Expander actually *launches* Word? That doesn't make much sense. If it really does that when you drag the .sit onto Stuffit, I would re-download a recent version of Expander. -------------------- Slarty vs. Desk • Desk vs. Slarty • Timeline of Ermarian • G4 Strategy Central Posts: 3560 | Registered: Wednesday, November 7 2001 08:00 |

It downloaded the GraphicAdjuster weirdly too. >_< I'm downloading the stuff on a different computer now and moving it using my iPod. Thanks for all the suggestions. -------------------- Do not underestimate the power of the mechanical pencil. Join the Dark side. We have cookies. Pretty soon, Mac files will no longer be regularly distributed as sit archives. The newest Macs don't even have StuffIt Expander installed. They have some crappy built in thing that only handles zip and rar. -------------------- "You're drinking liquor because you're thirsty? Stuffit, so many memories. I'm probably one of very few individuals that actually owns a copy of Stuffit Deluxe 11. I got it for 30 dollars when it was first released and I tend to like the .sit/x format (maybe it's nostalgia). I rue the day when Expander stopped coming with macs. Does OS X and later have tar/gzip capabilities? -------------------- I celebrated last Thanksgiving in an old-fashioned way. I have a man page for tar, so presumably it's installed. My experience is that Stuffit's onetime power to open whatever can be reclaimed by using a certain app called The Unarchiver, which can be used on its own or substituted for the system default. I haven't found an archive I couldn't un since I got it.
