Anyone remember the various deities and major cults mentioned throughout the games? I can think of a few offhand (the Anama being an obvious example), but there's a half dozen or so scattered around. Posts: 356 | Registered: Saturday, August 23 2003 07:00 |

Divine Lucre. There are some others, but not that many actually. A lot of the shrines are dedicated to nothing in particular. Although there appears to be some common religious sign among a lot of them - an ankh. This faith is never named as far as I know, but it would presumably be more or less organized, if loosely. -------------------- Encyclopaedia • Archives • Members • RSS [Topic / Forum] • Blog • Polaris • NaNoWriMo Look on my works, ye mighty, and despair. I think the ankh's just a little homage to the Ultima series. :P -------------------- The Empire Always Loses: This Time For Sure! Posts: 9973 | Registered: Saturday, March 30 2002 08:00 |

In Jeff's intention, perhaps, but in the Ermarian background it could be given a meaning of its own. After all, the fan canon extends a lot of the game stuff. ;) -------------------- Encyclopaedia • Archives • Members • RSS [Topic / Forum] • Blog • Polaris • NaNoWriMo Look on my works, ye mighty, and despair. The Empire as I see it is sorta like Rome without the Emperor-worship: we don't care what the hell you practice, as long as it's not subversive. (Which is why, for instance, the Anama are persecuted, and just the Anama.) No, it doesn't matter so much to the Empire, but for my purposes I would have preferred to get at least some of the canon deities correct. Ah, well. Thanks, everyone. Posts: 356 | Registered: Saturday, August 23 2003 07:00 |

Since I managed to restore the Encyclopedia, which was down in the past two months, you can view all that's there so far on Religions in Ermarian. Which isn't much, but it's something. And if there is more, you can always extend it. :) [ Wednesday, November 09, 2005 05:15: Message edited by: NaNoWriMo ] -------------------- Encyclopaedia • Archives • Members • RSS [Topic / Forum] • Blog • Polaris • NaNoWriMo Look on my works, ye mighty, and despair. quote:The people of Avernum/Exile do not worship the Emperor. This is in contrast to ancient Eygpt, where the ruler was elevated to god status. I am sure the Emperor has his (Empress has her) own religious views, but they don't appear to dictate a state religion. *this message sponsored by josef* -------------------- quote: Posts: 4114 | Registered: Monday, April 25 2005 07:00 |

I remember in Za-Khazi Run there is a temple dedicated to the Avatar of War. This enity is powerful and grows stronger due to the violence in the world, it also has various aspects. For example in the scenario the Avatar is worshipped in it's Aspect of Justice. I wonder if this 'Avatar of War' has any relation to the Avatar spell of BOE. -------------------- Milla-Displacer Beastie This is also a good site Posts: 650 | Registered: Thursday, October 4 2001 07:00 |

Not necessarily. An "avatar" is just the physical incarnation of a deity; different deities have different avatars. The term is from Hindu mythology. I added the Cult of the Sacred Item. Someone with time on their hands could integrate some of the other temples if there exists any detailed information. The site doesn't bite. ^_^ -------------------- Encyclopaedia • Archives • Members • RSS [Topic / Forum] • Blog • Polaris • NaNoWriMo Look on my works, ye mighty, and despair. I like the Cult of the Sacred Item best. I think it best reflects the religious views of the average RPG player. I'm a card-carrying member myself. You should see all the stuff I keep in my house at Lorelei — not to mention the House on the Hill, up in that small secluded valley. Posts: 907 | Registered: Monday, July 15 2002 07:00 |
