Dear All,

Hey there. Long time no see. I came across 'Rage Polar Bear' on my iTunes a while ago, and after Googling it, decided it was a shame that such an orchestral wonder isn't famous. I'd like to track down the author so I can get their permission to make some tiny movie and put it on YouTube.

'Nuff said. Can someone toss me a bone?

Ben Rogers. The movements of the "Symphony of Spam" are titled "Verification Required by Visa" (that's the rage polar bear one), "Fwd: (no subject)", "YOUR HELP IS NEEDED FOR A GOOD WORK", and "Harder Quickerr and Longer".

I like the second movement, personally. "My name is Jane! I am seven years old! Black hair and red eyes! I have no nose, or ears. I am dead! If you do not send this to fifteen people in the next - five minutes I will apPEEEEEAR! tonight by your bed with a knife, and kill you!" The singer sings it in such a cheery manner, which makes it particularly funny.

"This is no joke! Something good will happen to you tonight at 9:22!"

"This is not a joke! Someone will either call you, or talk to you online and say they love you! Do not break! No send-back!"

I've never actually listened to the third and fourth movements too closely, but I should.

I think my preferences are, in order, the first, fourth, second, and third movements. There's a majesty in the first and last that doesn't appear in the other two.

—Alorael, who can provide all the movements to anyone who wants them. If there's enough interest he'll upload them somewhere. Not right now, though, because he doesn't have them handy. Tomorrow!

While we're requesting music identification, I salvaged a WMA file from my old eMachines T2542 computer before the power supply crapped out and fried the motherboard. It's a piece electronic ambient music that played during the setup of a fresh installation of Windows XP from the discs that came with the computer, and I really like it. I doubt eMachines, a maker of budget computers, would commission a new work of such high quality for something so silly, so I figure they must have licensed an existing work from someone.

It's 5:24 long, with a calming mood. It begins with four eight-beat chords with no other instruments which are then repeated with additional instruments that sound something like tape snaps and a sharp inhalation of breath, and then other instruments come in as well. It has about five seconds of a low-pitch choir starting at about 3:49.

Does anyone know the name of the artist and/or the name of the track?

ADoS, that music always plays during the setup of Windows XP on any computer. It's normally not heard because the sound drivers often need to be installed later. I have no idea what the music is though, but if you look around, you might be able to find it.

Oooh, I want the Windows XP Theme Soundtrack!

Is it included with the installation anywhere? I can't find it...

Oh, so it does. Thanks, Tyran.

Brian Eno, of course. I guess it's just called "Windows Welcome music".

Aran, the file is in the WINDOWS\system32\oobe\images folder. It's called title.wma.

EDIT: There's some interesting MIDIs in WINDOWS\Media too.

Now I'm curious. Someone upload the installation music?

—Alorael, who swears he looked on ermarian.net and couldn't find the old files. He's not senile, he's just incompetent.
