We Finns are the biggest minority in here, aren't we? I mean, there's not a bunch of french or spanish, or italian, and not perhaps quite germans enough to create the kind of atmosphere Finns manage to make. And just knowing a different language doesn't really count, knowing, say, german doesn't make you one. Unless you are. Um. You get my point.

Also, I don't do that on purpose. I'm just lazy.

Je suis étonné que ce fil n'est pas mort encore.

Well, I've haven't learned a few of those words in French class yet, so I had to use Babelfish.

Never use Babelfish as a dictionary when you can use the superior WordReference instead.

—Alorael, who wanted to stop at the word Babelfish. It does have its place, though. Sometimes you need to read that page that's all in Sanskrit and you have nowhere else to turn.

Grah. Ich verstehen sie nicht!

Please forgive the inevitably awful subject-verb agreement. Nalyd just can't remember those blasted conjugations.

First buy a normal sized bag of "salmiakki". If you can eat the contents in less than an hour and keep it down, you're ready for the big challenge. You should also try "mämmi".

Bah. Eating lyed fish requires no guts at all. It's basically tasteless and the structure resembles boiled egg, so it isn't that hard to chew on. And what's wrong with mämmi? It might look like crap, but it certainly doesn't taste bad. With some cream or milk, it's really tasty.

Been there, done that for years; I kind of like the salty taste. It tends to have a similar effect as caffeine when too much is eaten, though.

Yeah, I agree, and I'm sure if you ask any Finn they'd agree that eating salmiakki (salted liquorice) is no great feat. That's why I was so surprised to see a few of the Americans I work with take one taste, make some not-so-flattering comparisons, and then leave the bag for us hungry Finns. Ah well, I guess it's an acquired taste.
