Mh... never seen that before.

Did they ever say why, or how they chose their new name? o_O

No, they never brought it up. My dad told me they had and that was it.

I know someone whose parents took half of each of their last names and combined them to create their kid's name.

I know a couple who considered doing a similar merger for their own last names, but decided that a math professor Dr. Goldbrain wasn't a good idea.

Be careful with a word, as you would with a sword,
For it too has the power to kill.
However well placed word, unlike a well placed sword,
Can also have the power to heal.

Would have been brilliant, actually.

I wonder if some people choose their professions according to their last names. Mentioning Dr. Niederschlag ("Dr. Downbeat"), the anesthetist. :P

I was trying to locate the movie but it wasn't listed in imdb under the actor's name. It had a character whose first name was Colonel and his siblings were all give titles for their first names as a way to give them a start in the world. So he had brothers named Judge and Doctor.

William Faulkner wrote some stories about Colonel Sartoris Snopes, who was a little boy named after a civil war hero.
