Yay for excommunicating an entire city. It appears "surgical strikes" were no different then. At least this particular weapon of mass destruction probably did not inflict any physical harm... Anyway, I feel unqualified to vote because I don't know about these popes and don't have the motivation to read the Wikipedia entries. -------------------- "Toleration is not the opposite of intoleration, but is the counterfeit of it. By the way, I only included the "real" Avignon Popes in the poll, not the ones who are now considered antipopes. -------------------- The Empire Always Loses: This Time For Sure! Posts: 9973 | Registered: Saturday, March 30 2002 08:00 |

If there is more than one claimant to the papal office, then isn't the one not residing in Rome by customary definition an "antipope"? -------------------- Encyclopaedia Ermariana • Forum Archives • Forum Statistics • RSS [Topic / Forum] My Blog • Polaris • I eat novels for breakfast. Nope. A pope validly elected by the College of Cardinals is the pope no matter where he decides to live. -------------------- The Empire Always Loses: This Time For Sure! Posts: 9973 | Registered: Saturday, March 30 2002 08:00 |

It was a cry for attention. —Alorael, who considers this somewhat true. France wasn't too keen on giving up the papal seat. Posts: 14579 | Registered: Saturday, December 1 2001 08:00 |

I voted for Gregory XI for the simple reason of us sharing a name. Yes, I do all of my voting this way. -------------------- DEMON PLAY, DEMON OUT! Posts: 1582 | Registered: Wednesday, November 13 2002 08:00 |

Nah, there are too many antipopes to list. Even if I only listed the historically significant ones, the poll would be huge. -------------------- The Empire Always Loses: This Time For Sure! Posts: 9973 | Registered: Saturday, March 30 2002 08:00 |

Gregory XI because he had the guts to move away from France then promptly die. Coincidentally in my Medieval history course we are having a test on this exact time period this Thorsday. Although I do find the creation of Burgundy and the Swiss Confederacy much more interesting. -------------------- The Knight Between Posts. Posts: 2395 | Registered: Friday, November 2 2001 08:00 |
