You should put up your answers before reading the rest of the thread. The poll itself is adequate spoiler space.

Mao Ze Dong is the only one I'm certain of. Unless there was another Cultural Revolution I didn't know about. A preamble is like a prologue, usually featured in constitutions and similar legal documents. The only meaning I could think of for preambulate was in relation to speech, which suggested the telephone.

No clue about the moose, though I chose Bullwinkle. Is it a cartoon figure of some kind?

Similar to the marriage thing. No patience to research.

My colds have without exception begun on a Friday. The only times they start on Thursday is when the Friday is a free day.

Based on the premise that Israel is the only middle eastern power that the US has consistently supported, it follows that Palestine is the only power the US has consistently been on more or less unfriendly terms with. Following that, it is likely Arafat supported Saddam Hussein. Although Middle Eastern politics and the US interference therein has never made much sense.

Ask yourself this question: How widespread is obesity among Americans? Obese Americans - excepting those born with the tendency - are likely to project their eating habits on their dogs. Some Americans will have a dog who is more obese than them. Thus, obesity is probably more widespread among American dogs than Americans themselves.

Wikipedia says Jack Benny was famous for his carefully timed pauses. Two words that fill a carefully timed silence are "Umm..." and "Well...", and "Umm..." sounds dumb.

A jet liner is going at the greatest speeds when landing or taking off, of the three. When taking off, the updraft of the wings should reduce the pressure and friction of the tyres. When landing, the plane breaks by pressing against the ground, increasing the friction of the tyres. It would follow that landing puts the most stress on the tyres.

Last one is guessed at random, although I know Bush was never in the navy. Eisenhower?

Actually, the word the poster was looking for was "perambulate".

I thought that looked odd... what would "preambulate" be then?

Webster's 1913 dictionary thinks "preambulate" means "to walk before", but I think it's safe to say that it's not a word that's currently in wide use.

(Not that "perambulate" really is either, but still.)

Why do you have a 1913 copy of Webster's?

I pondered which vehicle was most likely to be used prior to travel on foot for nothing? Alas!

—Alorael, who can't answer which day is most likely to see the beginning of colds without knowing which is the day of highest stress. Monday, Thursday, and Friday all seem like fair candidates. And then there's the hump day factor of Wednesday. Given all this, it's probably Tuesday.

Saturday, just like on vacations, many people's self-worth is tied to their jobs. So on Saturday that factor is not there.

My annual cold, which comes up every October/November with punctual regularity, usually kicks in at some point of unusual physical exhaustion - eg. after I sleep too little, have to run to work, have to run to catch a train, etc., since that appears to weaken the immune system temporarily.

That means mostly on Monday or Friday. Friday is much more common though, because a sleep deficit often builds up during the weekdays.

You can find it for free online. That particular edition of Webster's is a popular reference because it's the most recent edition that's currently in the public domain.

No, no, no. No. To perambulate is to walk through. If preambulate is really a word, I've not heard it before.

You will note that "before" is not a synonym for "through".

Dictionary.com cites the 1913 Webster's too. I also think that there's something significant to the fact that this thread is now the fourth Google hit for preambulate out of almost 700. Perambulate, on the other hand, has almost 60,000 hits. Which one is a word and which one is an unfortunately repeated error?

—Alorael, who will never preambulate the corridors in the hours of repose in the boots of ascension.

Oops.

EDIT: UPDATE:
The majority of people seem to get everything right except the aircraft question and the Navy question.

I just chose the first option of every question, except for the dog one, because I didn't know ANY of the answers, and I couldn't be bothered to look it up. I think I was right in at least one question?
