I use my left index finger to type elipsis (elipsis's, elipsi, etc.). No need for any other finger or hand. -------------------- I'll put a Spring in your step. Posts: 2396 | Registered: Saturday, January 29 2005 08:00 |

An ellipsis is also a way of cutting off other content whose details can merely be assumed. For instance- Eagle, your "humor" is... :goatse: -------------------- * Posts: 6936 | Registered: Tuesday, September 18 2001 07:00 |

I sincerely hope I'm not one of those you're mocking for "ellipses abuse"... I only use ellipses in a well thought out manner, and for stylistic purposes. Plus, they're as much me as the dazzling blue eyes and neurotic grin. -------------------- And when you want to Live How do you start? Where do you go? Who do you need to know? I for one NEVER EVER use ellipses…(just to make a mockery of the explainations-for-ellipses bandwagon)…except when I want to take command of a third world country and use it to make jokes. -------------------- "Oh, North Wind, why frighten others? On a Mac, a very easy way to type ellipses is option-semicolon. One character ellipses have been made wondrously simple… so simple that they can make writing ugly. I have been guilty of this faux pas myself once or twice… —Alorael, who tries to keep himself from falling into the sloppy ellipsis trap with varying success. How do you pronounce a double-dotted i anyway? Is it just a long/stressed i, or does it sound different? -------------------- Encyclopaedia Ermariana • Forum Archives • Forum Statistics • RSS [Topic / Forum] My Blog • Polaris • I eat novels for breakfast. quote:In this case the dots above the i are being used as a diaeresis. They indicate that the vowel is intended to be pronounced separately from the vowel next to it. They're occasionally used in English words such as coöperation for the same reason (it's pronounced co-op-er-a-tion, after all, not coop-er-a-tion!). In the case of "ruïneren," you pronounce it as roo-wi-ne-ren, or something like this (so quite like Thuryl said). Its hard to write it just like that in english. That's because of the "roo-wi" part. "roo" you have to pronounce like "loo," and "wi" like in "sea" or "to see." Its the ea in sea that's important. TM: Yes, I am Dutch. I'm curious how you came to the conclsion of me being a hardrocker, or was it just a joke or something. As a matter of fact, i absolutely hate gardrock. give me Wagner, Dvorak or Mahler and I'm happy. Call me an imbecile, but why exactly did you say I'm an imbecile? Does the almighty TM never make a mistake when typing in another language? Or are you just a... (Oh sorry, writing that makes me an imbecile, right?) god knows what you are. And this short comment may make me a real imbecile, but I had to write it, albeit to annoy TM (or not): I have to apologize to Nicothodes, whom I promised to tell his future, but since I myself and the almighty chicken gods are quite busy, I couldn't find the time to do it.
