Well, the head of the Roman emperor Claudius was in the Thames for a couple thousand years before it showed up again. So Mozart's will turn up some day.

So Mozart's head will be reestablished around the turn of the 40th century. Yay.

I fully agree with your title, though, DL. Why would anyone come up with such a thought as to steal Mozart's head and why would anyone really care if he did. Other than monetary reasons, of course. :P

I can wait.

I actually think this is rather funny.

Decapitation is the mark of all true art. Our museums are full of it.

Besides, if they bother to run off with your statue's head that means they think you're really worth the effort. They don't abscond with just anybody's head!

Oh. But it's not his *real* head - for a moment there I pictured people robbing a grave or something.

Meh, perhaps I've read too much stuff by HP Lovecraft today. O_o

I'm not sure if anyone would be able to certainly identify Mozart's actual head, since he was buried in a multiple occupancy grave. I mean, there were no dental records in those days, and I don't suppose there is any DNA to match against?

I'm sure they documented on which side of the grave his body was thrown. Take all the skull from that side, compare facial features and size with the stolen head in the year 4106, and you should be able to tell.

Capital idea!

Something like this, you mean?

IMAGE(http://www.thehalloweengroup.com/skullsconce3.jpg)

But this is just so passé. But nobody just has the candle out of the top anymore! I tried to find one that wasn't so cliched—I was going for that "skull staring upwards with candle extending out of its gaping mouth" motif, but couldn't find an example.

"Limited edition 18th century composer skull candleholders—pillaged from the finest graveyards and abbeys in Europe. Collect the whole set! Buy now while supplies last!"

No, there will be no extra candle. I'd just stick a wick down through the wax head and light it.
