I'm partial to Uranus, although I like them all, really. Mars has too much baggage from appearing in endless computer games, though.

—Alorael, who has heard and not particularly loved Colin Matthews' Pluto movement. He also mangled the end of Neptune for a "better transition," which really means musical graffiti. No, there's no grumping here.

Alec has given me quite a few ideas with this topical music thread. Just to float an idea out- would anyone be interested in a "Greatest Beatles song" thread or something of the kind?

Thinking on it a bit, "Favorite Rock Band" might make for a more interesting and inclusive topic. But anyway, feedback would be useful.

But Stugie, there have been countless topics of that kind, while something like this is rare.

I can't speak for the types of threads that were around before I showed up, but I haven't noticed many topics at all that deal with musical preferences in as specific a light as "Favorite Beatles Song" would. "Favorite Rock Band" would be somewhat superfluous, though.

If you want to post it, go ahead. If it turns out to be boring, it will die or degenerate into spam and be locked. No big deal.

I think Favorite Beatles Song would be fine. There are, after all, hundreds, and a couple of dozen good ones.

In addition, the discussion would serve as a good introduction to the Beatles for someone not closely familiar to their music (as opposed to, say, 1 or 2 'big songs' and their status as cultural icons, which is ubiquitous), and it'd be an entertaining discussion for those more familiar.

Exactly. Far too many casual pop/rock listeners assume that the best of the Beatles is to be found on a single disc like "1," whereas quite the opposite is true. Practically every Beatles record is a greatest hits collection, and I'd appreciate it if more listeners were aware of that. Perhaps I'll make it a "list your top 5" thread, so as to get more song names out there.
