Last week Sony opened the Walk of Game in San Francisco. Gamers worldwide elect six games every year to get a permanent star in the Walk of Game. We should all vote for Spiderweb next time, what do you think? -------------------- ^ö^ vegetarians are sexy. Posts: 1420 | Registered: Wednesday, October 2 2002 07:00 |

I saw this topic's title and immediately thought "Walk of Shame." I suppose the "Walk of Game" could also be defined as being seen leaving one of the few remaining arcades after blowing $5.00 on Gauntlet Legends. Posts: 2242 | Registered: Saturday, April 10 2004 07:00 |

Yea, but Doom and Wolf 3d started the whole FPS genre. EDIT: and Doom was loads of fun when I was young. DooM (and Wolf3d for that matter) did for games what real-time sound did for movies: redefinition. The basic idea behind it never changed, run around, kill stuff, collect the key, get out. As for movies, tell the story, develop some plot. But it's about how it was done after this change. Never before had you been so immersed in an environment. Some people might regard Halo as a "great game" (go ahead, you are entitled to your opinion), but let's just face it: the birth of immersion in games is far greater than the mainstream shooter on a console. Now the Marathon series were a kickass bunch of games. They were the greatest kinda oldschool shoot'em'up games around. -------------------- When you think you can't get any lower in life and hit rock bottom, God hands you a shovel. We're not talking about whether or not a game is just 'good'. It's more about a game that caused a radical change in gaming, or a very new idea. Doom is a game that we still remember, 12 years after it was made. I'm sure Halo is good to some (personally, I can't stand 3d shooters that aren't on PC - specifically, the controller just doesn't provide the versatility of keyboard and mouse), but I'm very sure that they didn't redefine shooters in general, or even FPS. -------------------- Polaris - Weather balloons, ninjas, and your big daddy Wise Man. I don't get why people hail Halo as some sort of revolutionary thing. Gaming was slowly evolving from your older FPS's, such as Doom. Halo is just another game to take advantage of what most FPS's are using. -------------------- Aut Tace Aut Loquere Meliora Silencio Posts: 1487 | Registered: Sunday, February 10 2002 08:00 |

ADoS, it's probably some local slang term kids are using these days. And yea, I'll have to agree that Marathon does rock. People don't really think about anymore (in general), but let's face it: Marathon was awesome. For the record, if you didn't pick it up already, I detest Halo and everything it stands for. Yes, Quake does beat Halo in my book. The majority of games I play and like beat Halo. I'm now just ranting so I'll stop... -------------------- The critics agree! I despise and am unable to play any game featuring a camera that must be controlled by the player. Come to think of it, I dislike nearly all true-3D games, and all first-person shooters as a result. -------------------- Stughalf "Delusion arises from anger. The mind is bewildered by delusion. The 2005 inductees seem to be all console oriented. I guess since they're supposed to honor the video game industry it'll be dominated by that. Are games like Doom video games or computer games? Are video games only those available in Arcade and/or Console form? The Marathon series are the only pure FPS, aside from a little Doom and a little Unreal, that I've ever been able to play for longer than a week. Good stuff, indeed. KotOR is better than Halo, even KotOR II is better. Deus Ex is better than Halo. Half-Life is better than Halo. Counter Strike, Medal of Honor are better than Halo. Fallout (okay, this is stretching the point) is better than Halo. Nothing against the supporters and fans of Halo, I just didn't care much for it. (Golden Eye was better than Halo, it may not have had any story and plot twists, and whatever, but I rather waste my time playing a straight shooter than a FPS that's supposed to be last coke in the desert (look! you can ride a vehicle! you have dialogue! you make choice! woo hoo!). What's next? Dungeon Siege is the best RPG ever made?) -------------------- quote:Random Jack Vance Quote Manual Generator Apparatus (Cugel's Saga) Posts: 604 | Registered: Sunday, June 20 2004 07:00 |

Doom is a DOS game, I think, so I guess that makes it a computer game - though I'm not sure. Doom 2 is the game I play most nowadays - though Quake 3 Arena is quite good too. I have also never heard of Halo. [ Friday, March 18, 2005 12:17: Message edited by: The Stew Boy ] Posts: 587 | Registered: Tuesday, April 1 2003 08:00 |

Ok so we've proven our point: every imaginable game is better than Halo. Now how do we convince all the immature console-heads of this? On a side note, "video game" has become interchangeable with "computer game" on computers, though you'd never dare call a console game a computer game. -------------------- The critics agree!
