I remember some time ago.. coming across a site that mentioned something about a game being done called Exile online..it had the classic graphics.. and I remember very little beyond that.. I can't even recall how long ago it was.
Does anyone know anything about this? ( I don't think Jeff had anything to do with it from what I remember)

Whatever it was, it must not have been put into action because I've never heard of it. This is Exile Online, as close as it could get.

I think there was a client, and I can't recall why at the time I didn't download it and try it out.
I just thought of it now because someone had mentioned something about free online games, and having just gotten back into this it struck me as odd that I never followed up on it..i'm trying to google it..but finding way to much unrelated stuff to dig through.
I do recall that it was plainly called Exile Online.

I think I recall that as well. I don't think it was related to this Exile.

There have also been MUDs called Exile, some Exile-related, some not.

The only reason I think it was related was because it used the graphics set from this exile. It could have been a fan project, etc.
I'm still trying various google searches (even if the project is dead, usually you can still find old pages on it) but nothing jumping out at me yet.

I think you're referring to the MUD which was under development by Ace and another (Darin, IIRC).
It never happened.

if the mud was text based, no i'm not..this was seemingly an online version of exile using the same graphics.
[ Monday, October 11, 2004 17:28: Message edited by: crossmr ]From all my searching, I'm fairly sure this is a dead project now... when I saw this it was upwards of like 3-4 years ago at least...
(its just so tough to search because exile is such a popular name)

There was an Exile MUD about five years ago. Aceron was also developing Kaimorad, which was either an online Exile or fixed BoE, and highly illegal in any case.

Kaimorad was a fixed BoE. Jeff was not happy to hear about it.

You'd think he'd just offer to buy the rights to it for, say, thirty bucks and then sell it in place of the normal BoE. I suppose it might get more legally complicated than that, though....

Yep, which is why I was having so much trouble finding this :)
It was really a LONG time ago, but I remember it clearly. I can't recall how I found the game (likely through mpogd.com or a similar site) but I can't seem to find a trace of it now.

In addition to bug fixes, Kaimorad apparently had a completely reworked combat and spell system.

that would probably explain jeff not being happy with it. Its one thing to fix a bug, its another to change the game entirely.

Did anyone see this thing except for Aceron?

T Thuryl do you know whether Kaimorad was a hacked/recompiled version of Blades of Exile, or a complete rewrite? Because the former proves to be intensely difficult (BoE's internals are like Sesame Street, except without the sesame or the street and with extra rape), and any rewrite of BoE would logically turn into something completely different. That's what happened with Pyg. I still remember the IRC discussion where (I think it was still Gemini at the time, too) we decided that reverse compatibility didn't matter -- and the floodgates opened.

Aceron implied that Kaimorad was genuinely a hacked version of BoE; whether it was still capable of playing normal BoE scenarios I don't know. He did post a guide on h*x-*d*t*ng BoE savefiles, and once claimed that he could insert spells into BoE with pretty much any effect he liked for purposes of cheating through a scenario, so he'd obviously made some progress finding his way around BoE's viscera.

Well, Exile III savefiles appear to be pretty much memory dumps, so that doesn't surprise me. If they're anything like BoE/Exile scenario files, manipulating them would be trivial.

Aceron must have put a lot of time into Kaimorad. I remember when UA said that the first time he tried to compile the BoA editor with some slight changes he got 481 errors.
