I read the book in Khoth's ruins. It said I know how to translate the scrolls now. Great. So I go back to Fort Monastery and talk to Lark. I tell her I know how to translate the scrolls and she says something along the lines of 'Then do it! Please! THe suspense is killing me!' And that's it. Nothing more I can say to her other then 'So you're a hedge wizard?' and 'What services do you offer' What gives? How do I translate the scrolls? Please help me out if you care anything about a poor young hedge wizard's life. James Posts: 5 | Registered: Monday, January 16 2006 08:00 |

After so much time has past its hard to remember that the scrolls you need to translate are still back in his apartment in the northWEST part of town. [ Monday, January 16, 2006 06:38: Message edited by: Ziggy ] Posts: 7 | Registered: Tuesday, December 27 2005 08:00 |

You make a copy of the scrolls to take to smart people far from Fort Monastery. Why can't you just translate those right in front of her? If she were really a good hedge wizard, she'd want to learn how to translate them herself and broaden her knowledge. -------------------- "At times discretion should be thrown aside, and with the foolish we should play the fool." - Menander ==== Drakefyre's Demesne - Happy Happy Joy Joy Encyclopedia Ermariana - Trapped in the Closet ==== You can take my Mac when you pry my cold, dead fingers off the mouse! Actually, you only make a copy of a small portion of the text on the scrolls. I suppose your point still stands, in that that portion could still be translated in front of her. -------------------- The Empire Always Loses: This Time For Sure! I almost mad this same topic. :) Stupid Lark. For such a massive quest you should get a better reward. -------------------- The Knight Between Posts. Posts: 2395 | Registered: Friday, November 2 2001 08:00 |

I was actually rather suprised when I found it was a spell. I thought it would have something to do with the plot, since you get the quest so early. Like...they would say that Oliver is really Dorikas or something. Posts: 5 | Registered: Monday, January 16 2006 08:00 |

I was a little bit annoyed by that quest. I pushed straight on to the end from Khoth's lair and never made it back to Fort Monastery for the reward. Then I decided to finish every quest, so I went back and translated the scrolls and did other things. Then I realized that I never talked to Lark after translating the scrolls, so that was the last quest I completed. It's more irritation than it's worth. —Alorael, who also does not like that iron bars quest. It's the only quest that can't be completed. Posts: 14579 | Registered: Saturday, December 1 2001 08:00 |

Maybe if the bar-man Dawdy was trapped in his smithy by hundreds of iron-bars he wouldn't want any more. ;) -------------------- The Knight Between Posts. Posts: 2395 | Registered: Friday, November 2 2001 08:00 |

I kept hoping that eventually you'd get a response, "Wow! You have now brought me every %&§°!! iron bar in Avernum! You can stop now. And here's a cookie for each of you!" -------------------- We're not doing cool. We're doing pretty. Posts: 3335 | Registered: Thursday, September 4 2003 07:00 |

Boy, do *I* smell a pointless challenge. "How many iron bars can you collect over the entire game?" -------------------- Slarty vs. Desk • Desk vs. Slarty • Timeline of Ermarian • G4 Strategy Central Posts: 3560 | Registered: Wednesday, November 7 2001 08:00 |

I collected all Shaper Equipment in G3 on the first three islands, only to sell them on the fourth in a quest. I got 89 sets, giving me 3560 gold and 356 xp. I found the xp reward kinda low, to be frank. -------------------- "..The seventh wave of Thrall stumbled and climbed over the slippery, piled dead and Mazzarin saw The Watcher with them and at last knew the number of his days." I have a related question to this - by the time I clued in that I had to tell Lark I couldn't translate the scrolls and then get sent a new quest to talk to the sage in Formello, the shade had come to Formello and the sage wouldn't talk any more. Is there some way I can still complete this quest, or am I out of luck? Does the shade go away eventually, or is it always there after a certain point? I tried leaving the city and doing other things and then coming back, but the stupid shade is still there. I even made a very ill-advised attempt to kill it, but I imagine you can all guess how well that went... Posts: 14 | Registered: Thursday, February 2 2006 08:00 |

quote:The shade moves semi-randomly between Silvar and Formello. Also, you can eventually kill the shade, which is another way of making it go away. (In fact, by the time you finally finish the translation quest, you may well have killed the shades already. But you won't be doing either for a long time yet.) The shades can move every time you load a new outdoor section. The easiest way to make that happen is to take the nearest pylon to Fort Avernum and then go right back. If you haven't visited Fort Avernum yet, you'll have to leave Formello and come back, but you actually have to travel a fair distance away from the city. I'm not sure quite how far, but if everything freezes for a moment after you take a step you've probably just experienced section loading. —Alorael, who spent more time than he would like to think about jumping in and out of pylons to rearrange shades.
