at certain points in the game, like clicking "done" in a shop or clicking "no" at the warning about jumping off ledges, the game locks up for a few moments then when it comes back there is no sound at all. if i quit and reload the sound will return, but the same error will occur sooner or later. i am running windows XP and more information can be given if needed. any way to fix this?

1,000 thank yous.

oh no it happens to you too. I happens to me ALL the time in Exile III. It takes forever to save, and then I have to restart my computer...

As for fixing it, the only advice I can give is that don't do things so quickly if you are.

Sorry that's all I got. :(

Yeah, going about things slower is a little better but i cant use magic or shops without the error happening. but this never happens with the exile series, only avernum.

Yeah I have the same problem. My solution is to just use my old laptop that has Win98 installed rather than my WinXP desktop :P . I was just comming to this board to post this exact problem when I noticed someone else already beat me to the punch.

Try this:

It might work for Avernum as well.

Ah, compatibility (sp?) mode has worked some times for me on older games too... You should try it.

I still get this behavior using compatibility mode for Win95 or Win98. Any other ideas?

Hmm, Blades of Avernum works fine, though. Guess I'll just skip the first three games. Too bad.
