Okay, I'm assuming that you can play sound normally (ie, in Winamp or Windows Media Player). First step is to run Windows Update. Be sure to install all the DirectX updates. Next, Start -> Run -> dxdiag Click the sound tab and then "Test DirectSound". If the test is successful, post back here. If not, follow the troubleshooting instructions and see what you can do.
