Don't see how it could work. You change area and run into 10 different shapers? Geneforge was designed as single player. Posts: 6 | Registered: Thursday, December 15 2005 08:00 |

This has been discussed many times here (well, at least a few times). The answer is "No" for reasons that you can probably find using the handy search link at the top of the forums Posts: 76 | Registered: Saturday, August 16 2003 07:00 |

this has been discussed tons of times and word on all is there wont be one,80% here prefer single player, and the time it would take to make would be too long for jeff, plus the costs of maintaining a server for an online game are staggering. so dont expect one in the near future -------------------- George Bush is a Nazi - Eric Cartmen I'm not as think you stoned I am Visit the RIFQ Forums Posts: 462 | Registered: Tuesday, June 21 2005 07:00 |

The GF interface actually could sort of work in an online format. The turn-based combat would have to be shifted to real-time, and dialogue would probably have to work differently, but most of the needed changes could be mostly invisible engine changes. But it would be such a massive rewrite of the inner workings of the engine that there's sort of no point. Jeff could never do it, and he's said so. -------------------- Arancaytar: Every time you ask people to compare TM and Kel, you endanger the poor, fluffy kittens. Smoo: Get ready to face the walls! frankly, i wouldn't want him to do it. or at least, not GF as it currently is. possibly if they were to make a GF based strategy based game or something i could see it, but otherwise i still say no. of course, even that isn't likely to happen as an online game, since if it's too much work and resources involved to modify GF to be online, then i doubt it's any easier to make an entirely new game engine, and then to make that online ;) mind you, i dunno how much effort it would be to make it LAN playable... that might be interesting... Also it would have to be made trainer-proof somehow or people will have impossibly high stats -------------------- Ignorance Is bliss -Cypher (Matrix) Don't think you can; know you can -Morpheus (Matrix) sanity is overrated :) Posts: 130 | Registered: Monday, February 7 2005 08:00 |

Is it even possible to make a trainer-proof game??? -------------------- You know, why the Sliths are green - because of their scales. Maybe you know why some slith eyes were once red - ´cause the demons, which led them were red. But why are the eyes of the Slith Lord Followers red? Because they see the remains of their enemies always before the battle begins! Posts: 179 | Registered: Friday, November 25 2005 08:00 |

Well, to make a game trainer-proof you would have to keep all player's information on a database instead of a save file on their computer. -------------------- quote: Posts: 1115 | Registered: Sunday, May 15 2005 07:00 |

Now, I would love to see something like a Geneforge Online system, were it feasible. However, I think that as far as storyline and world size is concerned, Avernum would translate better to an Online setting. Posts: 9 | Registered: Tuesday, December 6 2005 08:00 |

we haven't seen much of the GF world. how do we know how big it is? really, you've seen a single island (GF1) a small area way out in the middle of nowhere (GF2), and a small chain of islands off the mainland (GF3). consider how big the mainland might be, not to mention any further islands, and also consider that there's a whole continent out there that we haven't seen (where the sholai come from). i think the GF world is big enough, if they chose to put it all in there. We've been over this before. Spiderweb Software consists of Jeff Vogel, his wife and his secretary: that's it. It's not a high-budget game studio which can afford to risk making a loss on some of its products in hopes of turning out a big money-spinner. Jeff can't afford to spend that much time and money designing a game in a genre he's not experienced with and which may or may not sell well with his usual audience. -------------------- The Empire Always Loses: This Time For Sure! I think this topic getting posted every month or two is due to some sort of spacetime anomoly where this topic gets stuck in some loop of the continuum. Thoughts? -------------------- Your flower power is no match for my glower power! Posts: 3726 | Registered: Tuesday, September 18 2001 07:00 |
