Well, I just started thinking "how could he possibly make that even harder for himself?" ... oh, you probably mean how did he do it, don't you? -------------------- The Empire Always Loses: This Time For Sure! Posts: 9973 | Registered: Saturday, March 30 2002 08:00 |

Well, technically while my party was made up of 4 sling-users, they weren't purely sling-users. I'd swap to javelins occasionally for tough stuff, and one of my guys was more of an archer. However, they all did use slings, so Thuryl's question was technically correct. The main point was that none of them had magic. The way I beat DWTD the first time was a bunch of Nephil priests with a lot of dexterity and Fast on Feet and Divinely Touched. With those bonuses, I could act first and get in a couple of rounds of Repel Spirit before they could do anything about it. So for this time, I took away the two main tools I used before - speed (a level 1 human without advantages simply can't be fast enough to act before anything in DWTD - try it) and magic. The way I did it was a bit unorthodox. I spent every starting skillpoint I had for one character on Tool Use. No combat skills, nothing. Then I went and picked every lock I could. With the disadvantages, I was close to level 10 before I ever saw a fight. And by then I could get enough Dexterity and Quick action to act first - at least for 3 of my PCs. Naturally, all that Dexterity made my guys decent with missiles, so I got a couple of slings and started off by throwing stones at zombies in the sewers. Got a few kills, got more levels, could kill some tougher stuff... rinse and repeat. The toughest fight was the three avatars on the bridge. I had to get so much Dexterity to act before them it was ridiculous. Even then, I had to use a wand of Forcecage to get through. After them, Vahkohs himself wasn't too hard. I had loads of Quick Action by then, so I could usually get a fair few shots off in a round, and they were doing about 100 damage each. The final one was a bit tricky, though. Those Jewelled Golems made life difficult, especially without a healer. I used the Rod of Major Call for that one, just for distraction value. So, yeah, there you have it. -------------------- SupaNik: Aran, you're not big enough to threaten Ash. Dammit, even JV had to think twice. Posts: 1861 | Registered: Friday, February 11 2005 08:00 |
