8 9 11 12 "What do these numbers have in common?" Such an innocent question. Such a hideous answer. Every forum on this board has a number. Geneforge is 10. Nethergate is 6. Numbers 1-19 are taken, with the exception of 8, 9, 11, and 12. And it is no coincidence that this, the Richard White Games Forum—in which so much dangerous dabbling takes place—has the number 13. But what of these unused numbers? What of the forums that should fill those gaps? What things truly lie beneath the deceptively blank exteriors of these "Missing Forums"? What nefarious communiques are being hidden from our sight? What unspeakable rites will make them visible? What ancient secrets will be learned from their contents? And why is each called "FYI"? What diabolical phrase is embedded in that cryptic acronym? And as for Forums 20 through infinity, what of them? Are they the incubating larvae, the infant progeny of the Missing Forums? Will they pupate in numerical order? Does our ignorance and inattention hasten their growth? Or, now that notice has been drawn to them, will their voids infest our minds, and make our souls the nesting places of their unimaginable young, to ravenously feed upon our essence when they hatch? And what will happen when their plans are completed? Can their nature, reasons, and goals be comprehended by mere mortal minds? Is it possible that they are merely preparing the way for Forum 6,432,766,349,448,872,395,334,773, which has been spoken of in hushed prophecies since time immemorial? For countless millennia great sages have puzzled over its meaning—to them it was but a meaningless phrase. As with all true prophecy, its meaning is hidden until its time of fulfillment is nigh. Then all becomes clear and the Faithful quake with terrible understanding. Each generation of Missing Forums flourishes for a short time, the unique genetic makeup of each group being carefully constructed to make possible the next generation. With each generation the gene pool exponentially increases in complexity, potential, and speed. Soon each Missing Forum will give birth to a hundred. And those hundred to a thousand each. Each wave stronger and more alien than the last. And, once their task is complete, they will all be utterly devoured by their own Grand Descendant. All except Forum 13. Oh horror! They have become aware of my presence! They have spotted me, and scurry about faster than before. Already I can feel their foul conceptual mass expand. Already their number is legion. And their breeding accelerates. Can't you hear the very universe groan and creak beneath the oppressive weight of their quivering white corpulent flesh? Can't you?! I have taken a terrible risk to bring you this information, and now I shall pay dearly for it. But they do not have me yet. I still have a few moments... The great day approaches. It will not be today. It will not be tomorrow. But it comes. Sooner than you think. Forum 13 is Its mother—host to Its conception, and to Its birth. The Birth of the Great One. The Birth of Forum 6,432,766,349,448,872,395,334,773 If you have read this, you are already Hers. Prostrate yourselves now and you may be spared for the Greater Purpose. There is still time to save yourselves, but I fear it is too late for me. No one escapes Forum 13. No one. Posts: 907 | Registered: Monday, July 15 2002 07:00 |

Forum 8 was Misc. Forum 9 was Avernum 1. Forum 11 was Avernum 2. Forum 12 was Avernum 3. But, um, the mystery remains! Alex, that's a pretty crazy placement for the 13th hole. Also, I have it on the highest authority the Forum 20 has been conceived. -------------------- "At times discretion should be thrown aside, and with the foolish we should play the fool." - Menander ==== Drakefyre's Demesne - Happy Happy Joy Joy Encyclopedia Ermariana - Trapped in the Closet ==== You can take my Mac when you pry my cold, dead fingers off the mouse! Misc was the last of original forums, because Mariann didn't want it at all, so it took some time for Drakey to convince her to let him make it. A3 forum was made before Misc, because at that time A3 was being worked on, so the forum was made in advance. -------------------- Be careful with a word, as you would with a sword, For it too has the power to kill. No. The Missing Forums and their offspring are totally unconnected to Richard White. This is a new threat, before which we are all equally helpless. In this instance, White cannot protect us. UPDATE: Some of you may have noticed that no matter how big a number forum you type in, there's always a page there telling you "FYI." Apparently, even numbers above 6,432,766,349,448,872,395,334,773 are being used. My theory is that these are decoys. The same goes for the upcoming Forum 20. Whether 21 will arrive before the Great One appears is a matter of some nervous anticipation, but I think we're safe until 20. I brought this matter to the attention of my mad scientist friend, Dr. Thadeus G. Stasislaw Koenigsburg IX, and he seems to think that "FYI" might stand for "Fomalhaut Yeti Incursion." However, he did not care to elaborate on what that meant exactly. Posts: 907 | Registered: Monday, July 15 2002 07:00 |

quote:This is not true. I didn't want it at all, Mariann was ambivalent, and the rest of the mods wanted it, so it was made last. A lot of the Misc-ey goodness came on the ikonboard, in about three months, and then several months on the UBB. It really was not around for long. -------------------- "At times discretion should be thrown aside, and with the foolish we should play the fool." - Menander ==== Drakefyre's Demesne - Happy Happy Joy Joy Encyclopedia Ermariana - Trapped in the Closet ==== You can take my Mac when you pry my cold, dead fingers off the mouse! quote:Galactic Core 3 is too big and too amazing of a project that even our beloved Richard cannot create it. It has been concieved by the Missing Forums and now builds itself until the great coming of forum 6,432,766,349,448,852,395,334,77, which may or may not be Galactic Core 3 itself.
