I thought sodium nitrate was an explosive, but apparently sodium nitrite a preservative. That image is far too large for sanity. EDIT: Jedi hand wave. Nitrates can serve as explosives as well as fertilizers, ergo the "fertilizer bomb," which Tim McVeigh used in Oklahoma City. It's another area where Homeland Security is failing, though in their defense, fertilizer sales would be almost impossible to regulate. EDIT: I'm not sure how sodium nitrite is different, but I'm pretty sure it acts as a preservative in Spam. Most processed meats use it though (especially hotdogs). Sodium nitrite is a very remarkable chemical compound that results from the carefully titrated combination, under properly controlled conditions, of Demon Bile and Tincture of Mandrake. -------------------- We're not doing cool.
