For a certain program I have to use commandlines in order to get it installed. The problem is not so much that i don't know what to type, the problem is, is when I want to enter the password for the admin account, so i can install the program, it asks for a password. I can't enter it for some reason. When i type, nothing appears in terminal. The only key that seems to work is "enter," which i don't need before entering the password. Anybody understand this? -------------------- Play and rate my scenarios: Where the rivers meet View my upcoming scenario: The Nephil Search: Escape. Give us your drek! When you're typing passwords, nothing shows. It's just like password boxes in a web browser showing stars instead of what you type. -------------------- Barcoorah: I even did it to a big dorset ram. desperance.net - Don't follow this link Posts: 1798 | Registered: Thursday, October 4 2001 07:00 |

Okay, thanks. Now for the second problem. If it all works that way, then why is the su saying "sorry" after typing my password and pressing enter. i can't imagine that I type in the wrong password, for I have but one account on this computer. Am I missing something here? -------------------- Play and rate my scenarios: Where the rivers meet View my upcoming scenario: The Nephil Search: Escape. Give us your drek! Are you using su? Use sudo instead. If you really need to get into root mode rather than just run one program as root, you can always type "sudo su". The O'Reilly books are useful, if you are lost using a unix/linux system. -------------------- "I can't read this thread with that image. The O'Reilly Books are useful, period. If they didn't cost so bloody much, I'd by the entire library. -------------------- Here's How You Can Lick Doberman's Leg Sores - Headline Posts: 1509 | Registered: Tuesday, January 10 2006 08:00 |

I don't know if I'll by a complete book to do just one pittyfull installation, though. But thanks, I'll keep it in mind. I might be able to lend it at the library. EDIT: I just found out that there is a GUI of the program I tried to install. I downloadd it and it works perfectly now. Thanks anyhow.
