Since A1-3 are based on E1-3 and A4 is coming out will there be an E4 pretty soon? Or is Jeff going to Just make it for avernum? I hope he makes an E4. You know just to keep all the Exile fans happy ;) -------------------- I love Spiderweb Software!! Who doesn't? My hints on making a new party. No. Avernum is a redone version of Exile, Jeff has said (I'm fairly sure). There will be no E4, so you will have to play Avernum 4 if you want a fourth game. By the way, is there a name for A4 yet? Escape From the Pit, Crystal Souls, and Ruined World were the titles of the Exile games, not the Avernum games. Avernum 4, like the previous Avernums, has no longer name. Exile is, in Jeff's words, outdated. There won't be any more Exile. All further developments will be Avernum games. —Alorael, who would guess that Jeff listens to his septuagenarian Eskimo fans when deciding whether or not to discontinue a series. They've weighed in on Exile, and the verdict is negative. Posts: 14579 | Registered: Saturday, December 1 2001 08:00 |

I wouldn't play a new Exile game. Let's just forget that piece of Spiderweb history. Though E3 and BOE were great ther are outdated. -------------------- The Knight Between Posts. Posts: 2395 | Registered: Friday, November 2 2001 08:00 |

I've always found the desire for Exile 4 very peculiar. Although I can understand the sentiment behind it, it's a bit like asking them to make an optional version of Age of Empires III: Age of Mortar Shells using the engine behind Atari's Adventure. If Jeff put up his development to a democratic vote, a whole lot of things would be very different. :P -------------------- Encyclopaedia Ermariana • Forum Archives • Forum Statistics • RSS [Topic / Forum] My Blog • Polaris • I eat novels for breakfast. I would love to see an Exile 4, as I like the Exile engine better. For some reason, to me, Exile is easier to look at. quote:By that logic, nobody should make any Vertical Scrolling Shooters, as they are outdated. I guess they should discontinue platformers as well, since they're so old. While we're at it, let's get rid of RPG's too, since they've been around too long, and what do you know, no Avernum 4 either. </leetness> [ Sunday, November 20, 2005 08:24: Message edited by: Eldibs ] -------------------- "We can learn a lot from crayons. RPG = Role-Playing Game. In other words, a game where you control characters on a screen, infiltrate the lairs of evil monsters, kill them, and steal their stuff. Posts: 907 | Registered: Monday, July 15 2002 07:00 |

Adventurers are (Democrats/Republicans) and villains are (Republicans/Democrats). All RPGs are actually political satire, or at least political commentary. —Alorael, who excludes TM's scenarios, which fall into a higher political category as well as postmodernism. I still quite enjoy Exile, mostly because I'm much more experienced with it. However, BoE carries it on to us to keep Exile adventurers occupied. And there's enough there for a virtual Exile 4. Probably 5, 6, and 7 as well. At least we're getting a new plot now though and not just a revision. Even though, many of us are still making forever-in-construction scenarios. :P -------------------- -ben4808 Posts: 3360 | Registered: Friday, June 25 2004 07:00 |

There are actually a lot of things I like about Exile better than Avernum, especially the graphics (I could tell the difference between a Slith and a Nephil very easily in Exile) and the spell variety (I really liked Scry Monster and area effect spells). So, I would like it if there was an Exile IV, but it's fine with just an Avernum IV, especially because of engine changes as well as the ability to tell sliths and nephils apart. Hypothetical scenario: If a very experienced BoE designer had a very great amount of free time on his hands, and was very very bored and liked the plot and setting of A4 a lot... Which is about as likely as TM designing a sequel to Geneforge, of course. Still. Edit: Where the irony, of course, lies in the fact that an "E4" for BoE has already been made long ago. I currently don't remember which scenario that was, though - Falling Stars, or At the Gallows? At the Gallows. As far as can be determined, Falling Stars isn't even set in the same universe as the Exile series. -------------------- The Empire Always Loses: This Time For Sure! Posts: 9973 | Registered: Saturday, March 30 2002 08:00 |

Ouch. It appears that with Falling Stars, I'm far outside my knowledge of the scenario canon. It's neither set in Ermarian, nor is it part of *i's Arc. An Alcritas work, rather. I really had it mixed up with At the Gallows. Gah, I really should play BoE some more.
