If he means any kind of program, then it's usually a little X-labelled button in the top right corner of the window.

Perhaps he just means the door though. We all know how tricky those doorknobs can be to handle without a manual, right?

Only mods and admins can close topics and polls.

You can't. Eldibs said so very clearly, I believe.

Whenever you visit the mainpage of a forum — whether it be General, Tech Support, or Nethergate — there's a list of names at the top, in the upper lefthand corner, where it says "Moderated by:". Only these users can lock, move, or delete topics or polls or individual posts. The only "fancy" thing you can do is go back and edit one of your own posts. For anything else, you have to ask one of these moderators.

However, some topics are closed because they get out of hand (filled with spammy nonsense or offensive material) or drastically outlive their usefulness (assuming they had any to begin with). In such cases the moderators use their own judgment, and don't require any kind of permission from the person who started the topic.

You can, however, ask them to lock a topic or poll that you started, if you do something like create the poll incorrectly (like what happened with your "Which goblin graphic?" poll).

I've deleted the duplicate.

—Alorael, who could even see it as almost appropriate. Two polls, one for the old peach goblins and one for the upstart whippersnapper goblins.

This topic needs to be closed. It has 'outlived' its usefullness — IT 000 had his/her question answered.

Exactly, Spring. Good example.

Yes, it's usually at this point that people come in and add replies that are written in Japanese, or blather on and on about Terry Riley.

Two consecutive identical smileys are the sign of a crazed mind. Humanity and Spiderwebity, beware.

Why don't we see how long we can keep the topic around anyway, like just regardless of point?

Because we've done that over and over again and more or less shown by example that a topic can be maintained for a truly excessive length of time? Go take a look at most of RWG and a good half of General.

Alo, I got a rough translation. It is:

"Alorael, that wants to add that is not only TM that at times harms to write something that the other they understand not. The simply it has the conviction to do it completely. Other they pretend to write something, but really does not have more felt that the God of the chicken."

I understood some of it, but not the last part. 'God of chicken'?

For a topic begging for closure, the content seems to lack that inertial friction. Perhaps some advice?

1. Will that be cash or charge?
2. *kiss*
3. Please sign here.
4. I do.
5. "Guilty"
6. Sincerely (et al)
7. With the punch line.
8. Recap your key speaking points.
9. </html>
10. Flip the sign and lock the door.

This thread has merely outlived its usefulness; it is not yet an offense in the eyes of gods and men. As such, it merits a small goat.
