Teachers are allowed to talk to students during exams where you live? Wow. I can't help but say that that seems like a somewhat questionable system.

Well, I've taken many exams where the teacher was available purely to clarify wording and such. Any questions relating to the substance of the exam were waved off.

It was an internal end-of-year exam, not the centralized examination. My impression was that pretty much everything in economics that didn't get sent off-campus for grading was a joke.

Good as. What did the bet stakes get to?

I don't know; all that I heard of it was them excitedly whispering to each other about it and then supressing a laugh whenever he did give them the solution.

He caught on at the fifth or so, but he wasn't that angry. I think it was his second or third year teaching.

You're a lucky one. All the Eco profs here are boring old men. I suppose it's a good thing I'll be in a Computer Science program for the next several years instead of that.

Good econ classes are definitely worthwhile though, I think. Frightening, but worthwhile.

Most teachers at my humble school (Warrnambool College) are shockers. But there are some good P.E teachers and even a good maths teacher, which is surprising.

What I want at our school is a general astronomy class. Do any of you have that at the time?

A tale from a guy who teaches no more:

At one of the most prestigious universities here (so to speak) and a rather expensive one (second or so) this is what a professor of Electrical Engineer did:

He was lazy and didn't want to an exam. He asked one of the students to do it for him. The student did. Word spread. All the students aced the exam. The teacher, for that and the general fact that he was terrible, was fired.

A few professors, not many thank fu lee, smoke in class from time to time. (actually you, as a student, can smoke anywhere in the university except for the classrooms.)

You can talk to professors during an exam, not a problem. Sometimes professors leave the classroom. And sometimes some people do things, using their bodies so to speak, to get better grades (but this happens in other countries as well, or so I've heard).

Most of the stories I hear about other professors are about their crappy style or the bedtime activities. A few times I've heard stories of professors who have been overtly vulgar to students in the classroom.

(Please, though, don't think that this country is full of crummy professors. We've already had enough bad publicity as it is, those are the exceptions rather than the rule. In general it is like in most other places, I'd imagine, you have a gamma of choices from the worst to the best and, I'd like to hope, a fairly tolerable middle ground (it should be an excellent average instead, though))
