Hello world. I don't know if this is against board rules but i have to ask. If anyone in Australia (or rest of world) has heard about the fires near Port Lincoln South Australia that started on Tuesday 11th jan 05, i am sending out a please help call. 9 people are dead, 3 missing & over 50 homes have been destroyed by the largest bushfire South Australia has seen in over 35 years. I am writing to ask if anyone could please get your town to start a fundraiser for all of the families who are left with only the clothes on their back. I know this is very soon after the tidal wave that destroyed so many more lives and homes but these people also need help. For any members who live in Australia this plea is especially for you, you all know what bushfires do to our county, well this is as bad as Ash Wednesday 21 years ago. Please if anyone can help, we realy do need it Thank you Dreamqueen -------------------- If there is no light at the end of the tunnel, stride down there and turn the damm thing on yourself! people often tell me i've lost my mind, but i tell them i have to have one to lose it! lions and tigers and bears, oh my! I think you havn't taken into account the fact that the majority of people who frequent a board like the one you are on are not the type to rush out into (gasp) daylight and start a community concern. But I am sure that here there are also the type of people that would do what they can for you and yours. I hope your search goes well... I'm sure as well that any topic such as this, if factual, belongs on any board. Don't worry about that. -------------------- ...well I thought it was funney...? didn't you? I wasn't born at Ash Wednesday, so I can't remember it. I haven't heard much about the SA bushfires, either. But I do remember the bushfires up in the Blue Mountains a couple years ago at Christmas. I had gone to someone's house for Christmas Eve and the sky was all red and dropping ash here and there. I'm glad I wasn't in the Blue Mountains at the time. But as for the SA ones, this is the first or second I've heard about it. I hope the bushfires stop soon. Is Port Lincoln near Adelaide? I'm going to Adelaide early this year. I can't really help that much for this, mostly because I don't live there. Must be pretty big, though. Posts: 587 | Registered: Tuesday, April 1 2003 08:00 |

The sentence about the tidal wave reminded me of this: Mung has a good point, unfortunately, and I'm reasonably sure that any request I made for money would be countered with something along the lines of "I already gave to the tsunami aid effort". My town gives far less than we should. It's sad, but it's reality. Get the word out online, though, and not just here - that's a good idea, and I wish you the best of luck (and God's blessings; hopefully that's not too offensive to us Spiderwebbers). -------------------- And though the musicians would die, the music would live on in the imaginations of all who heard it. -The Last Pendragon Polaris = joy. Offensive? I certainly don't mind the name of God when it isn't abused for waging holy crusades or converting people to one's own belief. God's blessings, and good luck with this. That said, I'm sure that a little spreading of the word, especially online (and especially in the blogosphere) will be tremendously effective. That also said, while I lack the initiative and know-how to set up a fund, I would be more than happy to donate to a given paypal address. Port Lincoln is approx 600kms from Adelaide so you should be 'safe'. i assure people that this is not a hoax. Hoax's do not have to go to funerals. I knew before i wrote that not many would help or be able to help. I just wanted Australia and the world be aware of just how devistating this sort of thing can be. unless you have been directly effected by this sort of thing then you can have no real idea. But you know straight away who has been effected. They are shattered. -------------------- If there is no light at the end of the tunnel, stride down there and turn the damm thing on yourself! people often tell me i've lost my mind, but i tell them i have to have one to lose it! lions and tigers and bears, oh my!
