Graphic Request in Blades of Avernum

I was wondering if anyone would care to create a custom graphic set for me? I hate to ask this, but I am a horrible artist, and I can't seem to get anything even close to what I am trying to do. I want to make a mining cart, using a creature format. It doesn't need to have any fighting component, obviously, and a death graphic isn't really necessary. It would just be a rectangular design, sloping out at the top, in grayscale.

Well, firstly, the nice serviles will help you kill Spharon, and then run off. They probably won't want to talk to you, since you're leading them to kill their old master. But, I just replayed this bit, and no errors.

I was aware of their abilities. However, immediately after you convince them to help you, they will run off. If you then, immediately afterward, before they even get to Sharon, try to speak to one of them, you will receive an error, at least if you are on a PC. (Apologies for that very akward sentence.)

There are two errors I noticed while playing the game. I should probably email them directly to Spiderweb, but I will try this first.

1. In Sharon's place, there are a group of serviles who do not serve him. You can convince these serviles to help you if you say the right thing. However, once you convince them and they run off, if you try to speak to any of the serviles, an error pops up at the bottom informing of something wrong in the dialog.

2. When you meet Corrie and inform her that her father asked of her, you get experience. However, the quest is not marked as finished. Hence, you can continue to ask her and receive unlimited experience.

Unhandled Exceptions in Blades of Avernum Editor

No, it was set to the right template, 1. However, I have used the wrong template setting before and it does not give an unhandled exception. Rather, it gives a graphical error, drastically slows the game, and displays a corrupted image. At least that has been my experience.

Anyways, the point is moot as I have a work-around for the problem. But I suppose it might be helpful in further diagnosing this dilema.

I was wondering why this topic was started in the BoA editor forum? It seems to me the problem is with BoA itself, not the editor.

I have encountered two more unhandled exceptions:

1. I used the relocate_character on a Drake Lord character in my scenario to put him on a chair. As soon as my party is in visual range, the error occurs. I fixed this by not putting him on the chair.

2. In "A Large Rebellion", I tried to speak to some NPCs in the largest town (forget name) and when I speak with ones that do not have dialog scripts, I receive the error. I did not investigate as to the cause of this error because that scenario hurt my head too much.

No, if a graphic is the wrong size, it will give error messages about the graphic when it first sees it, not when the character dies (unless, of course, the problem lies in the dying graphics). In any case, it has not been my experience that this crashes the game, it merely impedes progress by many errors. I have had that problem a few times, but it is not nearly as severe as an unhandled exception.

I have been able to track down and fix this particular error, however, as I explain here:

Haha! I discovered the cause of the problem! It was not a conflicting Windows program, a bad graphic, an illegal argument, a tweaked save file, or the like! When I created this creature type, I gave them all a percentage chance of having several items. For this specific character, aka Ralgog, I also gave him items in the editor. For some reason these items conflicted with the preset ones and it crashed! I solved it by getting rid of the items in the editor (they are unnecessary) and I would warn other scenario designers of this fatal error.

In general, however, I think we can differentiate between the unhandled exceptions by the address at which they occur. I am not a proficient programmer, but I'm guessing that is an reference to somewhere in the BoA source code. I have the same unhandled exception error at different addresses with different problems.

Most of what is being discussed here seems to do with overlong strings or missing graphics. I however, have encountered this error (unhandled exception) when moving between towns (plus I figured out that if you move diagonally toward a one square thick strip of a special encounter trying to move you to another town, it will instead transport you outside) and when killing an NPC.

I have been creating a scenario for close to a year now, and the biggest problem by far has been an error never mentioned anywhere in the documentation that I can find. At several, seemingly random parts of my scenario, I get an Unhandled Exception error. The most recent one looks like this:

UNHANDLED EXCEPTION
Unhandled exception: c0000005
At address: 004399c0

This latest one has come up after I was tinkering with a part of my scenario where you have to fight and kill a group of troglodytes. Pretty straight-forward, right? Well, for some reason, when I kill their leader, and then end combat, this error pops up and the game crashes. Another time it did it when I had a special encounter where you are supposed to go to another town. Everything looked alright, but, I still get the error.

In the troglodyte fight, the only things I modified for the leader were his name, his level, his Act at a Distance modifier (set to 2), gave him two standard items, and his dialog memory cell.

How do you put objects in barrels? I've played all the scenarios, but I've never thought to try it. I was trying it recently, but I could only drop stuff on the ground.

Oh, and well I have everyone's attention, what is the name of the female dragon in Exile III? I can't remember and I have lost all my save files.

I got an error not mentioned among the errors in the documentation while I was testing my scenario. It said Smyltwar Major Error: Expression TOO LONG in line 114. I assume that means my conditional statement is too long on that line (for it is very long), but I was wondering why that would matter.

Coincidentally, I'm open to suggestions on how to fix this.

Town Importation Error in Blades of Avernum Editor
Warrior

I have been trying to import a town from another scenario. So far I have been unable to do so successfully. When I try to import, it asks for the zone, as usual, and I input 6. Then I select the scenario from which the town is to imported from, and bang! I receive this error:
The program encountered an error while loading/saving/creating a scenario. To prevent future problems, the program will now terminate. Trying again may solve this problem.

Giving the scenario editor more memory might also help. Be sure to back up your scenario often. Error number: 204.

In addition, I get another, more fatal and annoying error:
Unhandled Exception
Unhandled Exception: c0000005
At address: 0041b25f

The program then crashes, without any lasting harm. The town is relatively simple and I can just recreate it, but I would like if anyone else has run into this and how they dealt with this.
