If its a feature, I feel its a bad one. Why not just limit the skills/resistances to a certain level, or reduce them to something more appropriate then zero. and yes, I'm aware you can pretty much only have this happen if you use the character editor, but then why include the ability to max out the skills if the game just reduces them to zero? If its an anti-cheating feature, why not either a) document it or b) allow it to be disabled? I don't like being told that I can't cheat in a game because thats like me telling other people not to use mage/priest spells, you shouldn't tell a person how to play a game. Mostly, I'm just curious if anyone has heard from Spiderweb about this little quirk in the game? Posts: 37 | Registered: Sunday, June 13 2004 07:00 |

The minimum system reqs aren't that high, my old machine ran it no problems. I think comparing NwN to BoA is kinda like comparing a boat to a plane, they're both pretty different games with different styles of play. Now comparing BoA to something like Dungeon Odyssey is more on the level in my opinion. Posts: 37 | Registered: Sunday, June 13 2004 07:00 |

It might be level related in the fact that I can get resistances up to 200 with no trouble and the same for item lore. If I can be bothered I'll try with different levels to see if that makes a difference, as I've stated before the above limit of 200 comes with a character at level 250, human, no traits. I used to do this all the time with BoE. Every now and again, one of my party would "retire" and make room for a fresh faced young one looking to make their way in the world. It gives me the feeling that my party is changing and evolving, also having to protect a small one adds the fun and challenge a little. Posts: 37 | Registered: Sunday, June 13 2004 07:00 |

Yeah, I've had the same thing with a level 250 character now, so I'm sure its not so much level based. Just as long as your resistances are below 200 you should be fine. You'll pretty much only see it if you use the character editor so for non-cheaters its not a problem, but I can see how people wanting a god like party to test scenarios with would be rather annoyed. And yeah, I only get the last three digits of dmg myself. After getting your very nice god items, Kelandon, I killed a monster in what only seemed to be 1 damage :P Posts: 37 | Registered: Sunday, June 13 2004 07:00 |

I can't say I've had BoA hang on me, but I have had the "too-high" skill problem you've had. I was told that it was a result of that characters skills being too high for their level or something along those lines. I'm guessing its jsut a BoA Win problem since I haven't heard of any mac users having such a thing occur, don't quote on me that though. It does raise the question of how something like this got past the beta testing though, I would have assumed one of the testers would try out a mex stat/skill party, but I guess it didn't happen. One thing I did forget to say in my last post is that Spiderweb Software is a much smaller company then Bioware, which also has the backing of Hasbro behind it. Its obvious that they'll be able to get a team of developers and so forth to put in 3d graphics, 3d sound and all the other standard flashy features. What they did fail to do, however, was be able to put atmsophere in the game - which in my book is a part where BoA passes with flying colours. Posts: 37 | Registered: Sunday, June 13 2004 07:00 |

I must debate some of your points there, Necris Omega. First up the sound and music in NWN was so lame my girlfriend even commented on its poor attempt to inspire the feeling of a fantasy atmosphere. Sure BoA has no music, but I feel this is a bonus in that I can play whatever background music I choose. Also, I must disagree with your statement regarding NWN's toolset. It may require less scripting, but from what I've attempted and what I've been told, it requires you to have a great deal more knowledge of programing. I've just sat down and gone over alot of the BoA editor stuff, and while it may seem daunting at first, its not too difficult once you wrap your head around it. One day someone might release a utility program to help automate most of Avernumscript, but either way I know where my loyalty lies. Overall to me, BoA has a great deal I like and very little I dislike, where as NWN has a bit to keep my interest, but I dislike a great deal more of it. Its just a balance out of one game I dislike a small number things vs. a game I dislike most parts of (esp the dialogue, so over the top it makes me run to the bathroom). I'd say BoA for sure myself, though I guess I am biased. Having played NWN and its expansions myself, they just don't keep me coming like BoA and the Avernum series do. I guess its the game play and storyline that do it for me. Though I have to admit, Hordes of the Underdark was a good expansions, probably the best part of NWN and the only module I played more then once. I alos have rather large issues with the goofy over the top music and voice acting of NWN, I thought it was rather lame. The module builder for NWN is probably the worst part of it, for any who aren't into programming its just not worth it where as BoA's script langauge isn't too difficult. I guess another thing BoA has over NWN is the fact that in every Exile/Avernum game I've played I've immersed myself in it, I could really place myself in my party/character's shoes and sympathise with the people of Exile/Avernum. I couldn't really care less for the dull people of Neverwinter, who lack the depth of most Avernum characters I've come across. Posts: 37 | Registered: Sunday, June 13 2004 07:00 |

So it's basically to do with skills/resistances matching character level? I have had skills down myself, namely reposte, sharpshooter and lethal blow. If I'm right above, I'm assuming it can be fixed by raising the party members levels? Posts: 37 | Registered: Sunday, June 13 2004 07:00 |

After maxing out a character in the editor then entering a game, it resets some skills/stats to 0 (i.e some resistances, mostly magic/element and willpower and also some of the special skills.) Anyone else seen this? Posts: 37 | Registered: Sunday, June 13 2004 07:00 |
