is there an 'invisible' basis for the first aid and herbcraft skills? I've read that the basis for Tool Use is calculated from Dex and Int. In the Avernum games First Aid and Potion Making relied on Intelligence, is this also true for Nethergate?

It depends upon which version of the game you are playing. Original Nethergate had hidden stats that added to increase things like tool use. Nethergate: Resurrection removes this because it uses Blades of Avernum game engine.

First aid and herbcraft I don't think have the hidden stats in their actually being used, but it original Nethergate they are increased by increasing intelligence.
