Somehow I didn't succeed at fulfilling this quest, although I'm not sure why -- I'd been sent on the quest before rampaging the airie, whipping Raven's birdbutt, etc.

Was there somewhere in the airie that the feather was specifically to be found? And if not, does anyone know how to set the quest as done so that I can rightly get my key and experience and move along?

In the northwest corner of the Jagged Aerie was a molting gryphon that dropped a feather. You need a character with 6 (it used to be 7) or more dexterity to catch it. Use the character editor to get special item 33 (gryphon feather).

This is why you don't kill innocent things before you finish quests.

Many thanks. It seems in retrospect that the problem wasn't my lack of foresight, but rather a lack of dexterity. Who knew?
