OK, I've placed the crates as crate crate barrel diagonall starting from the north corner, and along each wall. Still nothing. What am I doing wrong?

Place them on the rugs. I think there are three purple rug squares that you need to place the crates and barrel on. Try crate, crate barrel from both ends of the rugs too.

Meaning: crate, crate, barrel
or barrel, crate, crate
