Can't shut off golem machine

I am trying to get to Rentar in the last fight of the game and I can't turn off the golem machine. I killed the lich and got the gate open. Went down the stairs and tried to turn off the machine, but it won't go off. Did I do something wrong or is it a defect?

For future reference, questions like these belong in the forum for whatever game you're playing (in this case, the Avernum 4 Forum.

Anyway, you need really high tool use to shut that last machine off. A tool use of 16, Dikiyoba thinks.
