I've experienced these problems on two separate systems to date, so I'm pretty sure it's not just a weird installation issue :) Anyhoo, here's my system specs (both are running Win2k SP3 on NTFS): AMD 2800+ / P4 2 Ghz ASUS A7N8X / ABIT IT72 v2 1 gb RAM / 512mb RAM GF4 Ti4800 / GF4 Ti4400 Once I've reached the Pentil area and gone through a few of the surrounding sections the game starts freezing as soon as I reach the travel menu and select a location (new or previously explored). I've tried on both machines, with multiple saves, and now with at least five separate games. What am I to do? I love Geneforge, but this is making it completely unplayable :( Posts: 17 | Registered: Friday, September 27 2002 07:00 |

first, check that your graphics card drivers are up-to-date. If not get the newest one's from nVidia. what DirectX version are you using? -------------------- "The Darkness Shall Return!" Posts: 642 | Registered: Saturday, March 16 2002 08:00 |

Nvidia 43.45 Not the absolute newest, but one of the more stable to date. And honestly, I can't imagine that this nearly two year old 2D game would need anything real specific when it comes to graphics drivers. Posts: 17 | Registered: Friday, September 27 2002 07:00 |

Geneforge aint two years old and I would suggest you to get 44.03; I remember that I too had problems with Geneforge with one of the 4x.xx series of drivers from nVidia; 44.03 works perfectly and they should give some performance boost also to your computer -------------------- "The Darkness Shall Return!" Try redownloading from a different site. Sometimes files can be corrupted. -------------------- A few cats short of a kitten pot pie... Radioactive cats have 18 half-lives. Check out a great source for information on Avernum 2, Nethergate, and Subterra: Zeviz's page. Finally, there's my Geneforge FAQ, Geneforge 2 FAQ, and Geneforge 3 FAQ. I'll try the 44.03 drivers... I was hesitant to change since 43.45 seem to be more universally "loved" (www.guru3d.com) but it's worth a try. Posts: 17 | Registered: Friday, September 27 2002 07:00 |

Alright, I'll recant on the "nearly two year old" statement, but it is *NOT* 3D in any way. The entire game is sprite based, or I'll go buy a hat and eat it! ;D Posts: 17 | Registered: Friday, September 27 2002 07:00 |

quote:Alright, let me rephrase my previous statement (and nimbly dodge to whole chapeau consumption issue :) It is not "3D" in the sense that it in any way interacts with Direct3D, which was vaguely implied by a previous post in reponse to my statement about a 2D game not needing any high-end graphic capabilities. I stand by that. Posts: 17 | Registered: Friday, September 27 2002 07:00 |

I guess I'm well and totally screwed :( I just reinstalled the OS on one of the PCs, put in the newest WHQL Nvidia drivers (44.03) and the game is still crashing when I go far enough north. Oh well :( Posts: 17 | Registered: Friday, September 27 2002 07:00 |

what DirectX version are you using? It is known that DirectX 9.0a has got problems to work with "old" games; so if you have DirectX 9.0a I would suggest you to install DirectX 8.1 -------------------- "The Darkness Shall Return!" Posts: 642 | Registered: Saturday, March 16 2002 08:00 |
