I need closure. Is it pronounced ... jeen' forj OR jeh' neh forj I just can't decide for myself and it's been bothering me since the original. -------------------- One of these words is mispelled. Posts: 284 | Registered: Tuesday, January 31 2006 08:00 |

The first of the two options. Two syllables, not three. -------------------- Arancaytar: Every time you ask people to compare TM and Kel, you endanger the poor, fluffy kittens. Also, Gene Wilder would appreciate it if you didn't call him Jenna Wilder. -------------------- The Empire Always Loses: This Time For Sure! Posts: 9973 | Registered: Saturday, March 30 2002 08:00 |

It's a compound word, so it should be pronounced like the words are when they are separate. Dikiyoba. Posts: 4346 | Registered: Friday, December 23 2005 08:00 |

When I ordered Geneforge I over the phone, I still hadn't clued in on the whole "Gene" thing. I pronounced it "jeh' neh forj". I think it was either Linda or Mariann who took my order, and they were confused for several seconds. ...Yeah, I have absolutely nothing to contribute. -------------------- quote: Posts: 1115 | Registered: Sunday, May 15 2005 07:00 |

quote:The ambiguity is which words are being compounded: "gene" or "genetic." It's perfectly reasonable to think that "geneforge" is "genetic forge." -------------------- Arancaytar: Every time you ask people to compare TM and Kel, you endanger the poor, fluffy kittens. I suppose it all depends on perspective. For me, "gene forge" makes perfect sense and it would be nearly impossible to see the word in any other form. I was, however, caught by surprise to see that the Geneforge was in fact a physical object and not metaphorical the first time I played G1. Dikiyoba. So I used first person. I always use first person if there is more than one paragraph in my post, if I'm trying to say something serious, or I can't think of anything else to add. Dikiyoba's final paragraph is where Dikiyoba speaks in third-person. And it's more than third-person, since Dikiyoba never refers to Dikiyoba's self in any form other than "Dikiyoba." If Dikiyoba can't think of anything witty to say, Dikiyoba just signs Dikiyoba's name. Posts: 4346 | Registered: Friday, December 23 2005 08:00 |
