Go to Ghirka... talk to the Vahnatai crystal crafter. It should be pretty clear what you have to do to get a soul crystal...

To add onto Waylander's post, you have to find a statue in the Bandit/Goblin Caves via east side of Avernum. It should be in the wolf area...
