So I walked up, obtained his reward, and then whacked him. He fled upstairs, so I followed him, wading through the masses of imperial troops, found him again. Hmmm... he is disappointed that I had been corrupted by Valkoth. It would be nice, and reasonably easy to script, for the game to anticipate a situation where you kill both Maynard and Valkoth, and gives an ending other than one where you flee criminal prosecution. Hmmm... he is disappointed that I had been corrupted by Valkoth.

If you kill Maynard and not Vahkohs you get an alternate ending. So the one you got is actually unique for that path.

I wasn't planning on killing Maynard as well, but after being attacked by his own guards upon leaving his keep, I changed my mind.
