OK, Doubting the efficiency of the installer compression, I took a copy of stock-box BoA installed, and made an installer out of it using the NSIS Installation System, using the best compression it offers, LZMA, which is pretty much the best free compression system available on the net. (It's the same compression as used in 7-Zip.) The result? A reasonably fast installer that totals at 9.65MB, compared to the 13.9MB the download consists of now - a saving of 4.25MB. Therefore, I recommend you switch to the totally free, scriptable installer system, NSIS, or a similar system using LZMA compression. (Unfortunately, NSIS is only for windows at this time. Perhaps code an installer for spiderweb games utilising LZMA compression? The best tool to do the job is one you write yourself.) -------------------- Apparently still annoying. Wha? Um, you can rate my Karma up :P But I think Spiderweb should use LZMA compression (solid), it's very well known for it's excellent compression ablility. -------------------- Apparently still annoying. Posts: 612 | Registered: Saturday, October 13 2001 07:00 |
