Have finished the game excet for one thing. I can't get door open. Is there anything (of value) behind it or is it just a really tough door stuck there to annoy??

Don't believe there's anything beyond. You could always open the town in the Editor and take a peek.

I peeked after completing the scenario; looks like there's just an empty 1x1 room behind it. So no, it's not worth building up obscene amounts of Tool Use just to open that door.
