I just discovered that the Invulnerable status blocks "unblockable" (type 4) damage. Does anyone know of a way to damage an invulnerable character?

I tried change_char_health, but it doesn't accept negative values.

Strip the characters of invulnerability, do the damage, then give them their invulnerability back.
(Or you can be like me and take it back withOUT returning it.)
