I have the control rod, but I can not destroy the geneforge. It keeps telling me a gas pushes me back. What did I miss?

You see those power spirals in the room with the geneforge? Click on them and if you have the control rod then you'll get an option to insert the key into the spiral. After you havedone this with all four, click on the geneforge and you can destroy it without the barrier preventing you.
