Today, March 14th, is pi day. I'll let you figure out why. Have some pi to celebrate. 3.14159265358979323846264338327950288419716939937510 -------------------- quote: Posts: 4114 | Registered: Monday, April 25 2005 07:00 |

As I trolled on Slashdot (anonymously, of course): "What. The. Hell? Pi is obviously 3, unlike those whacky scientist who can't even distinguish theory and fact would have you believe. Let people make up their own mind! Why would God let Pi be such a weird number? It doesn't make any sense!" -------------------- Encyclopaedia Ermariana • Forum Archives • Forum Statistics • RSS [Topic / Forum] My Blog • Polaris • I eat novels for breakfast. When I read that it was Pi day, I figured out why a few seconds afterwards! I'd expect a movie about pi to be released in exactly eight years, but ? has already been made. Maybe the sequel will be made. —Alorael, who had a very short party at 1:59:26:53. He'll have a longer party in Einstein's honor later. Posts: 14579 | Registered: Saturday, December 1 2001 08:00 |

I know this is cheesy, but Mr. Salmon had it coming when he said "have some pie." Today, one of my teachers told one of us that if they could tell us why it was pi day, they could get out of detention. Being very eccentric, I thought this particular teacher had just made that up. Didn't know anyone else had actually made a special day for pi. Pi isn't necessarily a wierd number if you look at it as 22/7 (Which is pi). -------------------- WWJD? Posts: 1384 | Registered: Tuesday, February 6 2007 08:00 |

The big question that now poses itself: Are you joking or daft? :P Also, here's another interesting tidbit for today: e^Pi - Pi = 20. Unless your calculator has a rounding bug. I was referring to Pi "being" 22/7. It's not even accurate to the third digit, and certainly doesn't justify the implication of being equal. I should of stated that 22/7 is an alternative to using the decimal pi in math class. -------------------- WWJD? Posts: 1384 | Registered: Tuesday, February 6 2007 08:00 |

pi=?. pi= 3.14. End of story. Not 22/7, because, as Aran stated, that isn't completely accurate. -------------------- You Shall Die Laughing: http://www.worfthecat.ermarian.net/converted The Roost: www.roost01.proboards104.com. Oddly enough, when I need to approximate Pi in my head, I'm more used to using sqrt(10), even though it's far less accurate. However, it's more convenient in quadratic equations, when 484/49 is quite a pain. Oh, and I forgot to say something a lot earlier in this topic. If someone posts a million digits of Pi in this topic, they die. Slowly. *pointedly looks at someone else than WKS* Edit: My 7331st post! I'm so 7331! Wait, was it 1337? Who cares. Yeah. Now I have a headache instead of a stomachache, which usually comes from eating too much pi. -------------------- You Shall Die Laughing: http://www.worfthecat.ermarian.net/converted The Roost: www.roost01.proboards104.com. Either way, I'm going to look for a larger source of pi. Cowpi! As for more pi, I found this very interesting search engine. quote:e^iπ + 1 = 0 ! What a discovery! Wait... *checks Wikipedia* never mind. In such a manner did I discover that 22/7 was not pi. I did this by taking my 6th grade math teacher literally, and trying to calculate pi from that fraction. When a pattern showed up... Needless to say, I was disappointed. A fraction would certainly be simpler, but given that pi is irrational... obviously not. Very sad. -------------------- Plaudite, amici, comedia finita est.
