A lot. Myself, Thuryl, Ash, Milla, dreamqueen, and The Stew Boy, just to name a few. There are more, but I can't think of any. EDIT: And you. Do you mean just Australian residents, and do Australians living overseas count? Hey, now there's an instance of downunder difference that hasn't been mentioned before. Attitudes to censorship surely pale as an issue before the radical question of how many people it takes to constitute one citizen. And there are a host of vital questions which the rest of us simply didn't know to ask, before now; like, is inter-citizen marriage allowed, or do you have to find mates within your own citizen? How do the constituent people decide how their citizen's vote will be cast? Can individual immigrants only become naturalized citizens in groups, or can they join existing citizens? Inquiring minds want to know. -------------------- We're not doing cool. We're doing pretty. Posts: 3335 | Registered: Thursday, September 4 2003 07:00 |

In my opinion, no one should get counted as part of an Australian citizen until they've dodged at least one drop-bear. -------------------- SupaNik: Aran, you're not big enough to threaten Ash. Dammit, even JV had to think twice. Posts: 1861 | Registered: Friday, February 11 2005 08:00 |

I didn't realise there were so many Australians here. I'll have to brush up on my Aussie ockerisms. "Crikey! Look at the norks on that sheila!" Translates into: "Goodness! Observe the breasts on that woman!" Posts: 60 | Registered: Wednesday, August 7 2002 07:00 |

Norks? Never heard that one. And "look at" should be "take a gander at". :P -------------------- SupaNik: Aran, you're not big enough to threaten Ash. Dammit, even JV had to think twice. Posts: 1861 | Registered: Friday, February 11 2005 08:00 |

quote:Well I haven't dodged any drop-bears but I have warned others about them. Does that count? I've also warned people about Wombats and sticking their hands in Wombat holes... and the snakes... and the spiders... and the jellyfish... and the sharks... But not about the vicious way male kangaroos can rake your stomach with their hind legs if you try to get too friendly with them for a photo... Ain't Australia grand! If a jackalope and a drop bear got into a fight, who would win? —Alorael, who already thinks he knows the answer. The drop bear, but only if it made its drop really count. Any disagreements? Posts: 14579 | Registered: Saturday, December 1 2001 08:00 |

Oh, there's so many gloriously dangerous things it's impossible to name them all. The box jellyfish is another one. Alorael: I think it would depend on the weight of the drop-bear and the speed of the jackolope. -------------------- SupaNik: Aran, you're not big enough to threaten Ash. This place is crawling with Antipodeans! Hmmm... So what does that make us in North America? Propodeans? Sounds like some neo-fascist political party. EDIT: Or maybe an obscure 18th century religious denomination. [ Tuesday, November 08, 2005 18:49: Message edited by: Icshi ] Posts: 907 | Registered: Monday, July 15 2002 07:00 |

Hey, they might not be as nasty as box jellyfish, but those drop-bears are still pretty hazardous. :P [ Tuesday, November 08, 2005 19:15: Message edited by: Ash Lael ] -------------------- SupaNik: Aran, you're not big enough to threaten Ash. quote:Do drop bears actually exist? I somehow got the impression they are a joke told to mess with stupid tourists... Edit: Wiki says no. Also, someone didn't research properly: quote:In fact, if a bear gets the drop on you down in Aurora, you get knocked out either which way, no matter whether you bought some or not. You don't get "eaten". However, having bought the repellant and telling the doctors so will cause great amusement among the hospital staff. :D [ Tuesday, November 08, 2005 22:51: Message edited by: NaNoWriMo ] -------------------- Encyclopaedia Ermariana • Forum Archives • Forum Statistics • RSS [Topic / Forum] My Blog • Polaris • I eat novels for breakfast. Drop bears do in fact exist. We like to tell the tourists that they're made up, but that's just so we can laugh at them when they get hit by a "cute, cuddly Koala" when they're trying to get a close look at them. The Wikipedia article is either an elaborate joke, or more likely, written by someone who believes the urban myth. Even some of the Australians I've talked to think they're just a story. You do have to get a fair way inland before you'll start seeing them, but they're for real. They aren't really all that dangerous. They'll give you a fairly bad headache and a few bites, but they aren't as bad as they're hyped up to be. Mainly they're just funny. Nowhere near as bad as feral pigs. The whole "never been captured on camera" thing is BS. It's just that they look pretty much like any other kind of Koala. There are subtle differences, but you need to know what to look for. I don't know if anyone's gotten footage of them actually dropping, though. They're nocturnal, so it's not too easy to get a good shot. -------------------- SupaNik: Aran, you're not big enough to threaten Ash. Dammit, even JV had to think twice.
