Try this, it's cool.

First, go to edit your profile. Go to the location field. Type anything. Make it short. even "fiheiwe" will do, as long as it appears on the drop-down list. Hit OK, so now your location is changed. Now go BACK to your profile. Erase everything in the location field (you can change it back later, but it needs to be empty for this) and put in ONLY this code.

It'll be invisible. Nobody can see it. Even YOU can't see it, hence the reason you needed to have something on the drop-down list because that's the only way to get rid of it. Now, go BACK YET AGAIN to your profile and try to change the location.

Nice, yes?

Note that the only way to change things back is to change it to something on the drop-down list, seeing as you can't back-space it because it's invisible.

P.S. Drop-down list is the little thing you get when you try to type in certain fields that remembers past entry. E.g. let's say on google you look up "cheese." then later you decide to look up "checkers." when you type in "checkers," the drop-down list comes down with "cheese" in it.

Drop-down list? What? While it may be cool, whatever it is, I don't really want to get rid of my location field. Do you?

I don't see any drop down lists for location when editing profile. I guess the list is just your browser remembering past entries. So if your string really causes problems, I wouldn't recommend trying it.

Drop down list = The little menu that drops down and shows past entrys in the field. The string isn't potentially harmful, but it will make changing your location difficult.

Having that drop down list is result of turning on an optional setting in your browser. Most people have that setting turned off.

It seems the basic idea is escaping a Unicode character (#8238, I don't know what it is) through the form. With all other HTML code, the forum appears to disable a tag (probably by replacing the '<''>' with their character codes, like < for '<'.)

However, it doesn't do this to Ascii/Unicode insertions, or not to all of them. If it did, Alo wouldn't be able to use his — I believe.

A nice backdoor, but I don't want to break my profile page. The board is unstable enough as it is.

Thats exactly what I was going to say, Aran.

Why would we want to make things harder for UBB than it already is? It probably will take too much effort, anyway.

Interesting. Apparently it is a Right-To-Left override....

Incidentally, wasn't there this time when a certain "trident" (Tau?) character did the same thing?

Edit: Psi, not Tau.

ψDoes this work?

It works fine - it never broke UBB as far as I could tell, just some people claimed that it did.

Actually, the trident character didn't do anything except make erasing the override code easier. The trident code,

ψ, ψ, when merged with the override code, makes this.

ψ‮ψ‮ You see? It's all backwards.

However, when the trident code is used alone..

ψ Everything is normal.

Intriguing. (sp?) It somehow merges the two characters together.

You mean autocomplete? I never use that - I find it rather annoying.

These codes are similar to like the
things in HTML, right? There's one for each character? Sweet, if I don't put in in code, it actually does create a space. :P

I don't really want to risk messing up my account, though, and for trying to change it in a weird way.

Actually, this doesn't display at all in Firefox. I wondered how it was done, but apparently I did it right the first time round and just didn't see it.
