If you people are like me at all, you love the vast storylines provided by spiderweb software's games. With the realese of BoE & BoA htose bounderies expanded even more. But is it truly limitless.

Depends which direction you're talking about.

Oh, and

Well, looking at it mathmatically... no. There are only so many combinations this editor can perform. Though it would be somewhere in the trillions.

It would be somewhere in the numbers I don't know the name for. Saying only a finite number of scenarios can be created is like saying there are a finite number of stories that can be written in books of 1000 pages or fewer.

?Alorael, who would like to invite everyone to go to a library and look at how many books there are, with special attention paid to the ones that aren't enormously bloated reference books.

It has an infinite amount of scenarios possible, but that all hinges on fan input.

Let's see... An A4 page holds an average of about 3000 English letters (including spaces and punctuation). So the number of possible stories in any language of 1000 pages or less is: (presuming there are about 45 possibilities for each character space: 26 alphabetical, 10 numerical, comma, space, fullstop, apostrophe, double quotes, exclamation mark, question mark, two bracket halves, dash)

45^(3000*1000)
= ~ 10^(4959637)

That would be 1 with about 5 million zeroes after it.

Of course, most of the stories would be:

ksndnf!?-('asss dc saa

Which means nothing to all but the most expert speaker of spammer-lingo.

Since this topic lives, I suppose I may as well attempt a serious discussion.

BoA provides several methods of imparting information to the player; messages, dialogue, even cutscenes. This is true of BoE as well (although the cutscenes aren't officially supported).

On the other hand, there are technical limitations on what the editor can do. For one thing, there's a limit on maximum scenario size, which places restrictions on just how much plot (and other things) you can put into one scenario. Of course, one can always get around this by making a series of scenarios. However, some things still just aren't possible in either BoE or BoA, in that you're still forced to work within the limitations of what the engine provides.

Of course, then there's different graphix we have to account for?those would make an entirely different scenario, in practice. A whole new set of data.

"Oh, North Wind, why frighten others?
In Nature's family all are brothers.
Puff and blow and wheeze and hiss;
You can't frighten Shingebiss.
Bring your frost and ice and snow;
I'm still free to come and go.
You can never frighten me,
One who never fears is FREE!"
