The aforementioned fixed skill costs and greater spell selection, as well as being able to create six party members instead of just four. And there's the part where I own the Exile Trilogy CD (from back when there wasn't really anything else Spiderweb made) and Avernum...not so much. I tend to think I prefer Exile, but I haven't played Avernum enough to tell. My reasons?
