It was indeed a noget bug. I did not possess such an item. I managed to get it back using the character editor, however. Deed done, scenario finished, moving on. Thanks for your help.

Excuse my last post, I also have a 'crystal of power' which might be the item in this case, but as it says important items are automatically used, and I am standing in front of the glowing portculi at the library, this makes my bug report not a 'noget' one, but a 'nouse' one. Unless the crystal is not what I must use, in which case it's still a noget and paint me puzzled on where I got the crystal of power in the first case.

Spoilers for people that haven't gotten into the talking spider caverns follow:

Windows version, newest download on the page, clean. Went through the talking spider caverns, cleaned out the nests, gave the eggs to chief spider (the "you're cute" messages kept cracking me up. The worst was Angry Spider) and he told me to look through the rubble for the pretty stone. I did, got the message that told me that I've spotted it, pressed "take it" and assumed I could now open the glowing portuli. I go to the library to test the rock out, but nothing. I check my quest items, and I only have three of the stones you need to get into the magery dungeon in the first place, and a number of other items that do not partain to the glowing portculi issue. At this point, I suspect a noget bug. I travel all the way back to the spiders, go through the dungeon again, still, no go. Sadly since I like to play rpgs pretty purely, I keep only one save game, to which I return only when I've lost a battle (if you save every step of the way, where's the excitement? being my primary reasoning and everything) and this means I've saved over my pre-spiders quest state and cannot replay the segment in hopes that I'll get the item.

Anyone else run into anything of the kind? Anything I can do to save my 10+ hours party? If really really pressed, I might consider leaving the scenario and then restarting it (assuming my characters retain their status) but that'd still really bum my out.
