Whenever I start game, I am able to choose "Change Resolution," but then I get a pop-up box saying "DirectSound Error: Failed to create sound buffer." I have DirectX 3.0a, which is the highest I can get with NT (I think). What else can I try to get this game to work? I can't find any indication on the website that the game is incompatible with NT 4.0 and I was able to play Avernum 2 on this machine without any problems. Thanks in advance, -- R. I am trying to play Avernum3 on Windows NT 4.0SP6. Whenever I start game, I am able to choose "Change Resolution," but then I get a pop-up box saying "DirectSound Error: Failed to create sound buffer."

I have DirectX 3.0a, which is the highest I can get with NT (I think).

What else can I try to get this game to work? I can't find any indication on the website that the game is incompatible with NT 4.0 and I was able to play Avernum 2 on this machine without any problems.
